The whole thing makes me sick to my stomach. The students that are rioting because the coach was fired should be ashamed of themselves. He doesn't deserve the support.

I've been following this on NPR and NYT. Paterno will be fired. BTW the people who saw something did report it to their superiors. It was TPTB that mishandled it and covered it up, including campus police.
I always felt that Coach Paterno was a man of great integrity and I am horrified and disgusted that he may have allowed something like this to be swept under the rug. I'm trying to reserve full judgement until more details and facts come out about his involvement/knowledge.

How did he allow anything to be swept under the rug? Why should he be fired? He did everything he should have done given what he knew. A graduate assistant told Paterno that he saw Sandusky in the locker room with a young boy and that there seemed to be something strange going on... not that he was giving oral or anal sex, not that anything wrong was ACTUALLY happening. Paterno was told something by someone else and reported the possible problem to his bosses. He didn't see anything and cover anything up. He reported what someone saw - to him it was heresay. He's the football coach, not the President or VP or Trustee. He can't investigate any allegations. He did what he could based on what he knew. Why should he be fired for that? According to the PA Police Commissioner, he did everything he was legally abided to do...he's not getting fired, and he shouldn't be fired.

Anyone that was an eyewitness or a supervisor of an eyewitness that was told about the incidences should be fired. And eyewitnesses and supervisors should all be charged with not reporting it to the authorities.

The whole thing is disgusting. ABSOLUTELY disgusting!

I haven't read through all 14 pages yet so forgive me if this has already been mentioned, but Paterno RECRUITED AND HIRED Sandusky. He brought him into Penn State. For that alone, he should most certainly be fired.

And I am just SICK over this. I am sick watching students rioting over this. I hope that when they have children they look back on this with shame.Chat Icon

Right? It's like a sick joke.

External Image

The link is still up but it appears the book is unavailable. The publishers should round up every unsold copy and make a nice big bonfire out there at Penn State.

Most child molestors are in DENIAL of what they do. Even confronted and caught in the act they would deny.

I have no doubt that he really think he helped those kids.

SICK SICK SICK!

And those who allowed this are ALMOST even worst to me. Because the guy is sick.. no doubt... but they others, they are not sick.

Where is Sandusky? I'm assuming he's in police custody?

He's going to prison with people that grew up underprivileged, neglected, abused. I cannot imagine how he'd survive. I cannot imagine how this guy wouldn't stick a pistol in his mouth. I know it's horrible to say. But does he have any other options?

Options other than the pistol? Of course! There's hanging (could def see that sick f*#£ doing some sort of sexual asphyxiation kind of thing), jumping off a building, slitting a major blood vessel, OD on pills (though, that's a more girly route to go), etc. Lots of options, really. Or, just wait for someone else to do it for him. Potato, potahto.

Actually, I would think he even started the charity with the intention of having victims easily within his reach. He actually set it up so victims would come to him!

I think he masterminded this since 1979 - god only knows how many there were.

HORRIBLE!

This is what I'm thinking too. Absolutely sick, disgusting, horrifying, EVIL.

I sure hope there is a special spot in hell for these kind of peopleChat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Did we discuss the Penn State scandal? (includes Grand Jury Report)

I would just like to know how a grown 28 year old man can witness a 10 year old boy being anally raped and not do a thing?

How do you walk away from that and call your daddy and ask him what you should do next? Don't you know better as a grown adult?

How do you put your head on the pillow at night knowing that because of you and your decision not to step in, many, many more boys went on to be molested.

I also agree with PPs that this is the tip of the iceberg, I think. I have seen some rumors online, that if true, are going to blow this story UP. I also think many more victims will come forward.
Chat Icon

I saw on the news last night there is another possible victim living in Texas.

This has been going on for so long, I hardly believe there are only a handful of victims. Chat Icon

I also won't be surprised if the rumors of him pimping out boys through his non profit turns out to be true as well.

Just to be clear, that is PENN STATE, not UPENN... UPenn is an ivy league, Penn State is the 'football school' known for its rioting

Okay...that is a little uncalled for. I went to Penn State and I agree that all those who are invloved in these heinous acts and those who knew about should be punished to the fullest extent that the law allows, but don't do that. I am not a football player and I never even went to a football game. The name or the fame was not why I attended Penn State. And this comment just shows how little you truly know about the university and its world class medical, agricultural, and communications programs. I understand that you are basing your comment on recent media coverage and events, but as you have a right to express your opinion, so do I. I just wish people would stick to the issue at hand and stop making these broad generalizing statement that trash an entire student body. I understand the crimes committed but that is like saying a whole race is responsible for the actions of a few ( and while many people knew about this if you look logically at the numbers it is a pittance compared to those who have gone/taught/or worked for the university). Is he?
Someone mentioned that he was out on $100K bailChat Icon

I really am curious to know where he is.
I haven't seen 1 report on this. Nothing from his lawyer, nothing from his family. NOTHING. You would think the media would be covering stories from in front of his house. The only story I've seen recently was that someone threw bricks through is window at home. Nobody was there at the time.
But how is the media not stalking him.
I want to see this. More than the coverage of Penn State.

Please help me understand the rioters!! Please.. b/c for the LIFE OF ME....IM SHOCKED!!! Are they really upest that this man was fired!!!!

Please tell me I am mis understanding these rioters!!! Chat Icon

of course they are. in case you forgot, HE'S NOT JERRY SANDUSKY. he's not the one who touched or saw anyone touch any children. he was fired, but the vp is on administrative leave and the asst coach who actually SAW a rape occur is still employed....

i'm not supporting the rioters but i'm supporting my fellow psu students/grads who are upset at the way this whole thing played out.

No he didn't rape the boy, but he allowed the University to sweep this under the rug, and was key to covering the matter up. When nothing happened, he could have brought this to the police. He could have brought this to the press. He could have at least demanded Sandusky's resignation. But he sat on this, and for that deserves to be dismissed from his job, absolutly.

It's also unsecured bail. RIDICULOUS! He hasn't had to put up any money if I read correctly. He basically only has to pay if he doesn't show up.

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I'm not basing my comments on the media, I have friends that go there now for their doctorates, friends from high school who went there for Ugrad and a few friends that have kids there now. I actually don't even watch college football (or any football). I don't know you and don't really care why you went there, you don't need to explain that to me. Call it what you want, but if they were not a big football school (throw in the riots by some students), it wouldn't have the name that it does. Take that stuff away and Penn State wouldn't be known by its academics. Whereas UPenn is an Ivy-thereby known for academics (and clear from my friends who went to Wharton/UPenn--academics was the reason). Just calling it like it is, I didn't make this up.

ETA: You can deny this reputation all you want, but this is the reputation of this school (at least for me and just about everyone else I know). Obviously every single person is not like this there (thanks for explaining that to me).

Two comments, an article and a cartoon (that hopefully won't get removed again):

The Penn state students and officials who still who rally around the program still don't get it. The ignorant environment formed by Joe Pa and his football empire is exactly THE reason why this abuse was allowed to continue.

This sums it up for me (as to why Joe Pa and others also responsible--beyond him being a mandated reporter). And McQueary is the star witness for the prosecution so I'm sure he'll get his in due time...the board of trustees is probably lawyering up now and deciding what they want to do with him.

**IF you delete this again, can you just delete the pic, not the whole post???

**Article--the very ending describes how the environment allowed this to happen--its all about football first!

clicky

Also, another former Penn State player (Sam Stellatella) donated money now for Sandusky's defense (clicky WTH is wrong w/these people?
