Re: This was written on bday invite my son received..
Probably every kid I know doesn't "need" more toys. But like someone else said, my DC love picking out toys for their friends.
I like what someone else said, if you really don't want your kid to have any more toys-have a party to celebrate with friends and collect toys/presents for Donation to a charity. That would be a great thing to teach your child that is lucky enough to have everything they need.

Re: This was written on bday invite my son received..
I think its completely rude. My DD is in 3rd grade and the gift trend this year has been NO GIFTS PLEASE. If they dont say no gifts they usually say instead of gifts please bring dog food, cat food, etc to donate to the local animal shelter or bring spare change for the wildlife rescue. It is so unbelievably refreshing. While I understand kids love to get presents, these kids realize that they dont need anything or at least 20 new things.

What!?!? This takes the cake. I would have been disgusted too. Who does stuff like that? How did she handle it? I don't know that I would have gone even for family....

Too bad you aren't going. I was going to say you should give expired kohls cash. It is so true that they could be young the gift cards for house stuff.

I don't mind it...makes my life soo much easier when I go buy the kid a gift LOL no searching toys r us or target aisles for the perfect gift..
I wish all the invites had it so I don't have to think of what to buy!!!
On that note, I wouldn't put it on my kids' invites because I would be scared of what people would think...but again I don't mind it if others do it.
Ita. Oddballs here but I don't care. I was buying a gift anyway
But I would never do it

I'm not a fan at all of being told what I should bring as a gift. Sometimes though, I feel like some of these invite stories are not real. I mean, they seem too ballsy to be real . At least, I'd like to think so, lol. Like that invite that was posted, I could swear i saw that same thing posted on here a while back. Of course I could be mistaken.

I'd probably just buy them clothes... LOL, I don't like buying gift cards cause then people know what I spent, however I have started shifting that route for adults- cause we buy what we need/want durring the year.

I understand where she was coming from with the line about the toys.....but then I think she had to bite the bullet and say no gifts. To demand what and where they come from is obnoxious.

I assure you 100% my story is real..I can post the invite and piece of paper with the request typed out (and I have an email as well from the mom that went out to the whole class).
I do agree..there are stories out there that I don't believe. The one on FHF about a poem with note that said something like "whoops you didn't send a gift!" is insane. But...then again, people don't surprise me much anymore.

The person who posted the planes invite is a FB friend of mine and posted a while back when she first got it. 100% legit.

Re: This was written on bday invite my son received..
Rude. I've had many parties and have never once dictated to anyone who gets what for my kids. If a close relative asks, I tell them. If a fried asks, I tell them what the birthday girl likes, but in a general sense.

People are so rude. This is the worst. I sent an invite for DS birthday and in the email i just put your presense is all the Present DS needs. People nowadays think a celebration is all about gifts. It is just a time to celebrate having such wonderful people in your families lives and to make the day more special for the kids.

Re: This was written on bday invite my son received..
Rude.
My DS is very hard to buy for. I even have trouble telling people what to get for him when they ask, since I don't know what they want to spend, or they don't like my suggestions. I prefer for him to get gift cards, but I would never ask people to give giftcards. If he gets toys I know he won't play with and doesn't even open, I put them away and donate them at Christmas time. No one's feelings get hurt and he enjoys his birthday.

Do you think it's rude to have a gift registry? I mean, sure the note is tacky, but isn't a gift registry specifying what the kid wants the same? Doesn't mean you have to give a gift card.
you know, I don't really know how I feel! I'm very traditional with stuff. I don't register for my kids for anything, not even christmas but I will let relatives know ideas if they ask (and they usually do). I wouldn't do a registry for a kids bday if i'm inviting 25 kids from a class that I don't know (meaning the parents really don't know one another except for a few of us).
It's not my style but I don't think I'd be AS up in arms. This caught me off guard...truthfully I thought it would going to say "please donate to the following charity if you'd like!". silly me, lol
omg that's what I thought it was going to say too, as I was reading your post! soooo rude IMO... and as a previous poster said, I'd be bringing a huge-azz toy! ha! I'm traditional too - and don't really like the idea of registering your kid for gifts... but, that would seem less tacky too me - more like "here's a suggestion..." instead of just blatently saying "do NOT get this, and instead get this and only this", kwim? it's one thing to offer suggestions WHEN ASKED, but I'd definitely be disgusted by that invite

Re: This was written on bday invite my son received..
I disagree. And this is why.. My sil has 2 kids that literally have toys r us in their play rooms.. Yes.. Rooms! So from that perspective I can understand the mom is just saving you and her time with the gifts. My sil winds up re gifting and sometimes to the people that have it to her. Cause she cannot keep track, and no fault of her own. I know some people don't like to be told what to do as far as gifts go but how easy is a gift card? It may not be fun for the girls to open but why not just get a fun little gift with it.
But if it was my kids .. I wouldn't put a restriction
