This was written on bday invite my son received..

"Santa spoiled the girls so much this year that we would appreciate not receiving any toys, however, we are excited to let them pick out a new spring wardrobe, so please make your gift a Kohls giftcard. Thank you!!".

The party is for twin girls.

I'm sorry but I feel like it's a ridiculous and petty request. Whatever happened to "come to a bday party!" and thats that?? SO rude IMO

Thoughts?

oh yeah-

she sent an email out before we all got the invite once again stating that they do not want toys only giftcards. Just in case we missed the huge piece of paper included in the invite...

I think it's rude - I could see saying something like this if you asked the mom what the girls might want/like as a gift but I don't think it should be on the invitation.

Exactly!

My SIL said "the mom is awesome IMO, she doesn't want the girls to receive crap and instead is asking for what she wants". Yeah, well, I don't care..i think its rude. My SIL and I don't see eye to eye on most things though

I find that to be very rude and tacky.

I think when it's time to throw my son birthday parties I'm going to send invites that say things like

"We really don't love our son at all and never buy him things, so please go hog wild and don't forget gift receipts."

Wow the set on her. I ask my friends what their kids need, but never have they emailed me or told me prior to me asking. Apparently this mom doesn't frequent lif because she would know it's tacky!

It's rude to specify a gift you want unless you are specifically asked for a suggestion. Maybe you can get away with telling your parents or dh exactly what you want but that's it. Very rude!!

Do you think it's rude to have a gift registry? I mean, sure the note is tacky, but isn't a gift registry specifying what the kid wants the same? Doesn't mean you have to give a gift card.

you know, I don't really know how I feel! I'm very traditional with stuff. I don't register for my kids for anything, not even christmas but I will let relatives know ideas if they ask (and they usually do). I wouldn't do a registry for a kids bday if i'm inviting 25 kids from a class that I don't know (meaning the parents really don't know one another except for a few of us).

It's not my style but I don't think I'd be AS up in arms. This caught me off guard...truthfully I thought it would going to say "please donate to the following charity if you'd like!". silly me, lol

I joked about this to my SIL (said i'll just get two barbies) and she looked at me like i committed a sin and said "ugh, don't be rude".

Ryan won't be attending so its a non issue (not b/c of this, because he said the twins are mean, lol)

I think it would have caught me off guard too ! Chat Icon people these days are getting too specific for their kids. It's a party to celebrate not a gift giving party. Makes me nuts !

This is an invite I got a few weeks ago:

Our husbands work together and this was sent out to all the employees at this particular location Chat Icon Keep in mind that the mother of this child has just moved here and has met probably 10 out of the 100 people who work here. People have NO shame anymore!

I think that's rude and tacky. I probably wouldn't even go to that party. When I first started reading, I thought ok, maybe she's gonna say donate to a charity since Santa brought them so many gifts. That would have been a nice idea. But to outright say you want gift cards is basically asking for cash.

Yes, that's exactly what it is...entitlement. Look, I get the appeal of the gift registries, I do. But really, I don't think it's teaching kids anything about dealing with life's disappointments when they get exactly what they want for every occasion.

As I was reading, I thought it was going to say something like this. My DD's bday is coming up, and that is what she is doing. Donating the gifts to a charity. We put an insert in the invite saying such.

I would roll my eyes hard at it, and probably make a post about it on LIF...haha, but I would get the gift card.

Re: This was written on bday invite my son received..

I can't believe how rude some people can be!

If it was a good friend, I would love if they could point to exactly what the child wants/needs but only after I ask. No one I am personally good friends with would send out such a rude invitation.

I was taken aback when I received an invitation with a gift registry embedded in the invitation. Honestly it made me not want to go. We didn't attend, not just because of the embedded gift registry but it did make me want to attend less.
