I will vote against Clinton. If that happens to be Trump then so be it. I'll pick my poison and it won't be a Gmo roundup weed killer infused one.

Just looking for facts here because I see a lot of references to Clinton and Monsanto, but I don't really see any real connections from unbiased sources. Is it just the donations made by Monsanto to the Clinton Foundation and the fact that her law firm represented the company? For me, that's not enough of a link. Is there something more?

http://www.snopes.com/hillary-clinton-sat-monsanto-board/

Hillary Clinton June 2014 at her keynote address at the BIO international convention in San Diego Ca expressed her enthusiasm over gmos. She is PRO GMO. Pro round up weed killer injected into the DNA of what you eat. And worse, no official labeling so you don't know what is safe and what isn't.

From the research I have done, round-up-ready corn is made by taking the DNA from plants that are naturally immune to round-up and splicing it into the DNA of corn. So now they can control overgrowth of weeds in the fields by using as much round-up as they need without it killing the corn. Weed killer isn't actually injected into the DNA of the seeds. I'm very anti-GMO but just wanted to explain the process so that no one here thinks they actually inject weed killer into corn seeds.

In this election, it seems that both candidates are for Monsanto so that can't really be a deciding factor when choosing who to vote for unless your voting independent.

I gave the date and the nature of her speech. You can google it and read word for word what she says. I am not sure how I am supposed to prove that fact. It's a fact Hillary is pro Gmo, no?

Sorry I shouldn't have used the word inject. I am familiar with the process but assumed others are as well. Genetically modified food really scares me. And he damage that has been done so far is going to be extremely different to undo.

Yes, I see that, but you said what's safe and what isn't. There is a lot of evidence that GMOs are safe. I'm pro-GMO and I don't care if they label it or not. I don't see the point in labeling something safe, TBH.

There are a lot of articles that say this. Here's one with different journal articles throughout it http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/why-people-oppose-gmos-even-though-science-says-they-are-safe/

ScientificAmerican has some good articles on it.

I am fine with GMOs too. i feel it has become some big bad scary word in farming when really, there is no evidence that points to it really being anything that the scare tactics lay out there. I feel GMOs are the vaccines of the food industry.

That's a rational concern, shared by a lot of people, and what everyone should be focusing on when choosing a candidate (issues and policies, not just specifically GMOs). You have a logical concern about a public policy. However, both candidates are both pro-big business, and both are going to help Monsanto as much as they can after the election, so to completely dismiss one candidate over one topic that both support needs further research.

Public discussion about candidates should be about "This concerns me. What will each candidate do (or at least promise to do) in regards to this topic?"

Re: Clinton vs Trump

I'm opposed to GMOs because they are designed so the plants can be sprayed with more chemicals without dying. I'm not so much concerned about the genetic changes because science hasn't proven them dangerous (according to the studies I've read), it seems the danger lies in the chemical herbicides and pesticides and not the actual genetic modification.

Until recently, I thought Non-GMO labeling was the solution and wanted a candidate that also supports labeling, but look at all the recent news with oatmeal. It's a non-GMO crop because it can already withstand a huge amount of pesticide and herbicide being dumped on it. So I was buying something labeled non-GMO thinking it was safer but it isn't. It has just as much chemicals as GMO crops. So labeling is not really helpful, it gives people a false sense of safety.

If your concerned about GMOs the logical thing to do is just buy organic and that solves that. I mean at least it's the best you can do unless you start farming your own foods. Yes sometimes organic companies are found to violate the rules and their foods contain traces of pesticides they shouldn't be using but I believe it's still safer then conventionally farmed foods.

This issue needs to be taken out of consideration for this election because both candidates support Monsanto. Let's start considering the candidates positions on the other issues that will actually make a difference in this election.

Recently I've been thinking about Trump and his pro-life stance. Being a wealthy man, if he got his mistress knocked up... I think he'd def insist on an abortion. He used to be openly pro-choice. So this is a case of him changing his mind only because he had to if he wanted the support of the republican party. Who knows his real thoughts on anything?

I agree with what you're saying but unfortunately the Gmo seeds are blowing across fields and contaminating non Gmo farms.

Also we have a right to know what we are putting in our bodies. I personally want labels. Don't take that choice from me.

I know I am getting off topic but how would people feel about genetically modified meat, meat from cloned animals? Please don't answer that question but at what point do we have a right to know what we are ingesting?

What I don't understand is how you can have so much hate towards Hillary for being "pro-GMO/Monsanto", and yet be fine with Trump who is also in bed with Monsanto? Is that the only issue that is making you pro-Trump? If not, what are your other reasons (either for Trump or against Hillary)?

I agree that we should have a choice, but nobody has taken the right from us because we never had that right to begin with. You have the right to choose what you put in your body. Not the right to know what products are made with. That's just how it has always been. Since both candidates are in bed with Monsanto, this isn't really a presidential issue. The best way to force change is if everyone would stop buying the products.

As for meat, look at the outrage on this forum alone over a cow that was given a name. You would think there would be that much outrage that meat is treated with ammonia and chlorine. According to the FDA, food can also be treated with radiation to kill potential pathogens.
A lot of consumers have no idea the amount of chemicals they consume daily and worse is they probably don't care. These companies aren't going to stop until the law forces them to (which is pretty unlikely given the fact that they are lining politicians pockets) or until the majority of the public stops buying their products.

I agree with your entire post, but quoted this language because it sums up the issue very well.

This is a hot button issue but, unfortunately, its a cause that neither candidate supports. Additionally, Trump has admitted that he thinks most environmental issues are made-up, so he clearly is no friend to environmental issues.

Why can't he have changed his stance after that child was born (his daughter)? Also having another baby then with Melania.

He could have changed his mind. He just doesn't seem like he actually did. He used to be very open about his pro-choice stance and even supported organizations that were pro-choice. His daughter with Marla was born in '93 if I recall correctly and his statement about being pro-choice was in 2000? So it's not like the birth of his beautiful daughter is what changed his mind. Now when he's asked about it, he dances around and says he "hates the idea of abortion".... but the fact that he dances around it and doesn't answer the question firmly like he used to when he was pro-choice, leads me to believe that he doesn't actually want to be pro-life and he's just saying it because it's kind of required if you want to run for office as a republican.

Re: Clinton vs Trump

I'm confused - is Trump a disgusting pig for wanting Marla to have an abortion? Or is it because he changed his mind and then said he is "pro-life?"

I don't think that supporting Trump means that you necessarily agree with everything he says and believes. Just like if you support Hillary you maybe don't support every single thing she does. But it's about what "issues" each person feels is important to them. Perhaps people are willing to overlook his lack of social graces because they feel he will be good for the economy. Some others may feel like they don't care about Hillary's past misdeeds because Hillary will better support women's rights. To each his own.

The old saying is that if you keep on doing what you are doing (electing politician after politician), you will keep getting what you are already getting. And people are upset about things that are and have been going on in this country. That isn't Trump's fault.

That specific comment (that he is a disgusting pig) was about him cheating on his wife, not for his politics. I actually don't support Clinton or Trump. I'm leaning towards voting independent but I'm not decided yet. I'll wait to see how the next few months go and see if one of them is able to sway me. I'm usually not so undecided as I know where I stand on the main issues but I don't trust these candidates.

Re: Clinton vs Trump

I do think it's interesting that Trump is almost always called by his last name and Clinton is referred to by her first name in a lot of these comments. I wonder why that is.

It's stuff like this that keeps coming up with Trump that makes me scratch my head that people want to vote for him but say they're not racist:

Trump Campaign Nominates Prominent White Supremacist To Be Convention Delegate

He's blaming it on a 'database error'.

So either they didn't vet this guy OR they are ok with his views.

If they didn't vet him, are we supposed to feel confident that he and his people will be able to weed out potential terrorists? Chat Icon
