I most definately thought about things like that and wouldnt want to choose a name that people couldnt say properly.

Well then my girls are really going to resent me lol.

DD1 is Áine (pronounced awn-ya)
DD2 is Cadhla (pronounced Ky-lah)

DH is from Ireland and we have a very irish last name so the first names suit them. My first name is also unique (hard to pronounce) but I've never had an issue with it and like that I haven't met anyone else with it.

We chose names that we felt would look good on college applications and resumes.


My DD1's name is traditional, simple and and easy to pronounce, but pretty unique these days. She doesn't even rank in the Top 1000 in the Social Security baby names.

DS1, DS2 and DD2 all have traditional, simple names as well.

I have one pattern...they all consist of 4 letters. I tried to have them all consist of only one syllable, but I couldn't think of a name that fit my "requirement" for DC4, so she has 4 letters and 2 syllables.


ETA: I have a popular name for my generation (6 girls with the same name in my 5th grade class), but it didn't and still doesn't bother me. I never really gave it much thought to be honest. I much preferred my name over some of the other things I was called.

My daughter is Leila (Layla) and I'm constantly getting "Leela" or "Lylah"

Leila is not an alternative spelling, it's actually the original spelling as it's a Persian name...

I don't think it matters too much what you try to do. Someone is ALWAYS going to get it wrong. My name is boring and old. Yet I am ALWAYS called Victoria, Valerie and Vanessa and spend a lot of time correcting it back to Veronica.

AJ gets some grief as people think her middle name is misspelled. That annoys me to no end as that is NOT her middle name. But ya know its ok.

Ive spent my whole life spelling out my last name (very traditional Hispanic name) wondering how and why everyone mispronounced it or misspelled it. Then I got married into a Chinese name which is even MORE generic and easy yet I still spell it out as they get it all sorts of wrong as well.

I didn't care how much her letters spelled out a word. I did care what her nickname was .. AJ... because from day one its what I call her. I wish only that I had stuck with my gut and called her Jezebel Rose.

My dd is named gillian and there are tons of Gillian's including gillian Anderson, yet, people call her hard g...gillian. In the hospital they even gave her to me saying this is your baby gilligan...
