Honest cleaning question regarding kids.. I need to know this - I need a new method.
In order to sweep, vacuum and then steammop my floors (no carpeting, all tile & laminate), I go room by room.
Clean up all toys first, then proceed.
But, how do you keep your kid(s) out of the room you are cleaning? Or the room that is being dried?
I have an issue with doing so, as I have an open floor plan...he always wants to run across the clean floor from the dirty area with his dirty little feet. Defeats the purpose!  Naps are rare, if no longer.
Any tips??

I KNEW someone would say that. (It's something I would say, too).
I just may if cleaning my floors takes as much work as it does now!!! I had to wait until just now to do them in peace. I don't mind cleaning at all, I just want to be able to focus on the task at hand. I'm pregnant and tired.

have you tried to have him help you? sometimes that works with DS. But on the times that it does not we do it when they are sleeping (i have 3).

I put a good show on, tell him to stay put on the sofa...and only let me know if he has to go the bathroom... he knows when I'm holding a mop, I mean business lol

I use the word freeze. It is my way of saying to them stop. It works for us in many situations - i.e. if DS is wandering to far ahead in a store, or about to walk into a parking lot (parking lot rules) ie. must hold a hand.

both ds bedroom and our living room are totally childproof and gatable (is that a word? lol)....so that's what I do.

I usually do bedrooms and the bathroom when they are occupied. Then I close the doors behind me. As far as LR and kitchen, I hand my LO a broom to push around, and my older one vacuums with me. Mopping is done only when everyone is asleep.

Before we got our cleaning lady (not trying to be funny...just being honest!), I used to do it at night once both the kids were in bed. It sucked to have to do it at 9pm, but that was the ONLY way I could get it done in peace!

I always mop after bedtime. Before DS was born, I always did it before bed and kind of mopped my way upstairs. It just makes it easier.

I steam mop when DH is home. I sweep every AM when DS is eating breakfast ...so that lasts about 10 minutes, as soon as b'fast is over there is stuff everywhere again

This...Charlie will help me clean and even vacuum but when I need to mop, I either do it when she naps or put a show on for her so that she stays off the floors.

Tyler HAS to be napping because he is obsessed with the steam mop, the vacuum, and the dust buster.
