Thanks for posting - I just read all 23 pages. I am DISGUSTED!!!
But one question kept popping in my head: How and why were young boys allowed to be ALONE with this man? In his car? Sleeping over his house? In the locker room? That part still boggles my mind. I would NEVER let DS go ANYWHERE with a man alone. I don't care WHO he is! Why were they allowed? I'm not blaming parents, but I'm just shocked he was given that opportunity on so many occasions!
He founded a charity for underprivileged children.... Unfortunately these children probably didn't have anyone really caring for them to begin with...
Which makes it even more sad!

I hate to say this, because I SYMPATHIZE with outraged students... but this is going to demolish Penn State's reputation if they find out more "higher ups" knew about this and didn't say anything.
Its the truth and I would NOT be calm... I'd be very upset.
if there's one thing i've learned in life thus far, it's to not be upset over things you can't control...and this i can't control so why waste my time being upset?
you're the one that wrote a novel about what a "WONDERFUL PERSON" Paterno was and how "WONDERFUL" Penn State is...
complete with chant....
and continued to argue with people about what a GREAT MAN Paterno was.
He WAS indirectly responsible. HE KNEW. HE KNEW AND DID NOTHING.

I believe all the named victims were from his charity...these were disenfranchised boys. They had little to no support system. Some may have had no biological family. He preyed on boys that were in need of support and positive figures in their lives. To the mother fighting to keep her son from the streets and gangs - he would have been seen as a blessing. A positive male role model that was suppose to help her son grow in to a young man with some support and hope for the future. He choice his victims wisely.

unfortunately, these were boys with troubled lives - boys with no fathers, parents who worked 3420498234 jobs and were hardly ever home, etc. so i don't think there was much (if any) parental supervision. i think the parents trusted him bc of the foundation. he abused his position and abused those poor boys
Which is even more disgusting. He preyed upon the weak and vunerable.

Yup.
The dude went missing back in 05.
The shitt is gonna hit the fan.
There's a reason people didn't speak up. Maybe they were afraid something would happen to them? Who knows, but this I guarantee, this thing is bigger than any of us realize.

Thereby negating his prior "wonderful person" status. Permanently. Well, to non-staters anyway.
Make no mistake "JoePa" tried to run the show in this debacle, just he had his little fiefdom over at Penn - which is what ultimately bit him in the arse. His press conference declaring he'd "resign at the end of the season" was his Hail Mary pass to try to get outta Dodge with some dignity intact. The board did not take kindly to that last power grab and rightfully fired him on the spot.

Re: Did we discuss the Penn State scandal? (includes Grand Jury Report)
That open letter from Penn State students/alumni is the biggest crock of $hit I've read in a long time.
How lovely for people to turn a tragedy that happened to innocent boys into how sad for them that their alma mater's name is being sullied. How about some perspective for the victims? To hell with the alumni and school "rising again"...what about the (now) young men who will never forget the horror they experienced for the rest of their lives?

Actually, I would think he even started the charity with the intention of having victims easily within his reach. He actually set it up so victims would come to him!
I think he masterminded this since 1979 - god only knows how many there were.
HORRIBLE!

To all you state people,
Clearly YOU do not understand. If an institution is embedding itself in a student's life, (which sounds ominous, by the way) that student might do well to be damn sure that the institution holds its employees to a standard of behavior that the student agrees with.
And right now we want you to know this:
You are MORALLY OBLIGATED to be distraught and sickened. You will get no honors from us "non-staters" for feeling revulsion - it's what NORMAL THINKING PEOPLE DO. You pray for the "victims to find a way to live a good life"?? Well the statistics don't offer too much hope there, sorry to say.
And I hate to throw more cold water, or Gatorade, whatever, on your virtual rah-rah fest, but here's the thing: YES. This IS the Penn State you love, and the Penn State that is part of your being. If that makes you sad, well, so be it. If that makes you angry, well then, now we're getting somewhere.
Spare us the naive and condescending character reference for "JoePa". Simply put, if Joe was your father, would you be proud of him today? More than likely you would hang your head in shame and disgust as his inaction. If one of those children were YOUR child, would you care where he ate ice cream? Frankly I might care, if only to find him there with a few of my friends and a Louisville Slugger.
YOU ARE... rioting in the streets - for the wrong reason YOU ARE... unwittingly victimizing these children once more YOU ARE... perhaps blinded by the "idea" of your hallowed halls, when the real picture is stomach turning
And I wish you luck in that "rise again" thing.
This is the best thing I've ever read on LIF.

Anyone who had an inkling of what was going on and didn't do a damn thing or follow through on any "rumors" needs to sit and rot with this over them forever. Then they can answer to God and explain why they did nothing to protect these children.
