The set was part of the gift- you're right about that. I almost did forget since I haven't gotten it as of yet (thanks for reminding me..lol). We actually have to pick it up this week ..he also asked me again last night if I really liked the subscription. He even said "You know that's all you are getting" and that the wedding ring set "didn't count" after I mentioned it.
There must be more to this - it's gotta be a fake out...I'm now convinced it is.
Maybe he 'upgraded' your ring set and you'll find out when you pick it up tomorrow.

For your sake i really hope it's a fake out!
and as another poster said.. i definitely wouldn't have lied like that and said you liked the gift. On the off chance that this is actually your real gift, he's going to think you are ok with it and get you more weird things like that in the future!
hopefully you get something else/better on the 17th!

Something kida like thsi happened to me. I asked for a very specific pandora charm for my b-day and when my DH gave it to me, I didnt even know what it was. I pretended I liked it for a few days bc I was afraid to hurt his feelings, but I finally asked...turns out he asked for the one I wanted and the girl said she never heard of such a charm(maybe he explained it wrong). He took me back to the store and we exchanged it for the right one.
I would definitely ask in a nice way what the logic was behind the magazine, especially because you have no interest in the mag.

He told me that Sunday we're "doing something special" but wouldn't say what. I know it's not going to be a new car (wishing it was-seriously as he usually uses our only car) but I'm thinking it is something good.
When I go home I'm going to try and wheedle it out of him 
He's very bad at keeping secrets very long but also good to know the magazine subscription (which is very much coming to me- we got a confirmation letter yesterday) wasn't the whole thing.

I didn't question it- I really was afraid to offend DH on this one. I think he wanted me to question him. He asked me to tell him honestly what I thought of it...I hate to say it but it was one of the few times I lied to DH. 
The fact that he seemed like he was fishing for you to say something and made a point of saying you were getting nothing else, makes me think it was a joke gift to throw you off. If not, I have no idea what he was thinking.
I totally agree. It just doesn't make sense otherwise. I hope we all don't get your hopes up for nothing!

My reaction would have been the same as yours. I don't think its materialistic, I think you are feeling misunderstood. Here is hoping you have a nice surprise coming today.
As a side note - I usually pick out my own presents. I don't think its terrible if your husband doesn't know what to get you as long as in his heart he wants to make you happy.

Update #1:
Sorry it took me a whole day to post- been a really busy day!
We went to pick up the new rings- unfortuantely they weren't upgraded as we all thought they might be. 
Whole day though was nothing out of the ordinary- I think I'm going to have to really think until the 17th I won't hear a thing if there's more to this gift of the magazine subscription.

Well we got tickets for next year but I know about those already.. we ALWAYS go every June and August to Pocono and sometimes go to Dover but not in 2011.
