As a male, I'm with you on this one. A lot more thought could have gone into this gift. Some guys need help in gift-giving. I admit I did.
Normally he wasn't like this- I'm hoping (and hinting) that maybe for my birthday (which is in July) and our anniversary (which is in March) he'll "be back to normal" with the gifts...in the meantime I'm sure he learned his lesson and of course it doesn't meant that he doesn't love me as always.

I can't believe this wasn't a fake out. I think you are handling it well, I don't think I would even be speaking to him at this point. I agree with everyone else that says, its not the cost that counts, its the thought, and I can't for the life of me imagine how he thought this would be a thoughtful gift for you.
I'm sorry there was no happy ending, he better make it up to you in the holidays and occasions coming!
