You described me to a T. I do this all the time & I dont expect anything back.
To add: I pick up some extras at the supermarket for my neighbor she is older and does not drive.

I decided that tomorrow, I am going to get coffee at 7s and pick up 5 $1 scratch offs and give them to the first 5 strangers I see.

Buy a pack of socks and give them out to homeless people.
Leave an encouraging note for a coworker on their desk.
Leave a thermos full of hot chocolate or coffee for the mailman.
Find somewhere where people are volunteering and bring the volunteers a Box of Joe from DD.
Buy food or something for a homeless person. Talk to them.
Give a compliment about your waiter/bartender/hotel concierge/kid's teacher/bus driver to their boss via email or letter.

Something my mom always does is she prints multiples of the coupons she's using when going shopping- especially at Christmas-time. While we're on line at the store, she hands them out to people behind her. Doesn't cost her a thing but everyone really appreciates it.
GREAT idea!
I do this and just did it recently in Party City. Easy way to make someone's day.

not that I don't agree with you, because I COMPLETELY do, but, isn't it sad, you'd think things like this should or would be just second nature.
now it's a random act of kindness rather than just people being HUMAN to one another.
but I agree, at least it's a start and it doesn't cost a dime to do.
yes, but we are all human and sometimes need a reminder

Tonight I bought a $5 gift card at 7-11 and handed it off to the lady walking in as I was leaving with this:
(she was my #1)
In target I gave a $5 coupon I had in my wallet to the man in front of me who was buying a cart full of toys. No note for him because I would've done that anyway

I'm using these as well. Four down, 22 to go, but thinking I will try to continue well after I'm done with the 26 acts of kindness.

Random Acts of Kindness Spinoff
The night after the hurricane we went to pick up Taco Bell for dinner since it was the only thing open. The women behind us looked sad and aggrivated and we could hear her ordering so much food. My Husband and I paid for her food when we paid for ours. We watched in our back window as she argued with the cashier about payment. I felt really good doing that. My DH does things everyday on his way to work. gives up a seat for a pregnant women, helps the elderly up the stairs in the subway and also gives a banana away every day to the same homeless man. At the end of the day, we all should be looking out for each other.

Today I payed for a woman's train ticket because she left her wallet at home. She was so grateful and asked for my address so she could send me a check but instead I suggested that she just do something nice for someone else. Helping people feels damn good!

I agree about not having to spend money.
COMPLIMENT SOMEONE!! About their smile, something about their personality.
Just look someone in the eyes with kindness, love and compassion and most importantly SMILE at someone!

Please share what you have done....I know so many people who are doing the #26acts and it is so refreshing to hear about.
Today, at Starbucks drive through, I had the guy at the window put the order for the car behind me on my card. I handed him the "26 acts of kindness" sheet and asked him to hand it to them.

Two weeks ago I was at tanger mall. Before I went I printed out extra coupons that I had for the gap and banana republic. When I finished checking out I walked around the store and picked out a few people and gave the 30% off coupons to them. To say people were stunned was an understatement. One man and his wife got tears in his eyes and kept shaking my hand. It was the most gratifying thing I have done in a long time and the best part was my two kids were with me and they say me doing it- my 6 year old said to me with a big grin on her face "we are like santa mommy".
I also sent emails to the principal at my daughters school to thank him for all that he does at the school and to wish him and his family a merry xmas - something I normally do not do but in light of CT it was something I needed to do.
Marry Xmas and happy holidays to you all here on this board
