Random Acts of Kindness Spinoff

Was thinking maybe we can list some ideas for act of kindness that we all may be able to do.

1. Love 2bad2sad gift card idea.

2. When getting lunch pay for the person's lunch behind you.

3. Donate to toys for tots

Please add to this list.

you dont even have to spend money -

let people merge in to traffic in front of you

hold doors for people

offer to carry something for the elderly

offer your seat on a train/subway

the list goes on and on.

If you are in a crazy busy shopping center or the mall and you are driving around for a close spot (or any spot), if you see someone approaching in another car, wave them in and let them have the spot.

Dont forget the GC could be for any store, if you are in CVS, pick one up and give it to someone.

- Ask an elderly neighbor if they need anything the next time you go to the grocery store or just stop by with cookies, sometimes they are just lonely.

If you are out to eat and can afford to - tell the waitress to put a nearby tables bill on your card.

Leave an EXTRA GENEROUS tip for your waitress today with a note on the receipt to pay it forward with an act of kindness of her/his own.

Buy a bouquet of flowers (from CVS or Costco) and maybe attach little notes saying "Just hoping you have a nice day" or "There is still good in this world" and hand them out somewhere. Some people might think you are crazy, but let them, it is OK.

Something my mom always does is she prints multiples of the coupons she's using when going shopping- especially at Christmas-time. While we're on line at the store, she hands them out to people behind her. Doesn't cost her a thing but everyone really appreciates it.

Last week DH & I were in target and the woman in the next checkout register gave us an $8 coupon b/c she simply couldn't use it. she saw us buying all the necessities for DS and she tapped me on the elbow & said "Here, you need this more than me I've been where you are. Happy Holidays"

I was so moved by her random act of kindness. I'm definitely going to pay it forward.

Also, you can purchase a "Groupon Now" certificate. A lot of $5 for $10 or so to local restaurants that have to be used that day. You can buy a few and hand them out to people entering the restaurant or whatever the place may be.

Whenever we are out to eat if we see servicemen/women in uniform, DH always pays for their meals. Its usually in diners that this happens. Last time this happened, there were 3 servicemen sitting together in a booth and DH asked the waitress for their bill. Then about 6 more servicemen came in and they were friends with the guys who were already there. We gladly paid for all of them, but the waitress almost gave us ahard time becuase she didn't believe that we really wanted the check for all of them.

Give people real compliments.

Tell someone you like their coat, hair, handbag, whatever (but mean it - don't just say it to say it Chat Icon)

Smile at little kids that make eye contact with you. They may not smile back, but their parents will, especially when you add that their little one is so cute or well-behaved.

If you see a parking meter with less than 5 minutes or so throw a quarter in there. I do this all the time and it makes me feel awesome. I know that meters are being replaced by the muni meter system but they're stlil out there. i don't do this because I love people I do it because I hate bloomberg but I hope it still counts Chat Icon

Re: Random Acts of Kindness Spinoff

My dd and I just went to the dollar store today and bought some warm, fuzzy socks and we are going to go to the rehab/nursing home my grandmother is in to hand them out randomly to residents. I am a psychologist in nursing homes and it makes their day just to have children visit.

Great ideas so far. In addition to doing more random acts of kindness, Im encouraging my DD to do more too but I needed ideas that didn't just cost money. Thanks.

not that I don't agree with you, because I COMPLETELY do, but, isn't it sad, you'd think things like this should or would be just second nature.

now it's a random act of kindness rather than just people being HUMAN to one another.

but I agree, at least it's a start and it doesn't cost a dime to do.

I was thinking the exact same thing about this post as I was out today. At least being out with a stroller, most people will hold the door for me. It should just be being a decent person.

I posted a few months back that a woman in Target randomly bought DD a set of Baby Einstein CD's.

This week while heading to the mall, there was an older homeless man with a sigh looking for donations at the exit for 25 off Nichols. I was surprised and happy to see how many people offered him something. I happened to have a granola bar on me so I gave him that, small but something.

I always give people at Carter's my extra coupons, mostly because I feel like it's a crime to shop there without one with the number they mail out!
