Can I just ask why some of you are upset that you are asked not to take the tip to cans or that they provide a po box? It doesn't mean you have to tip but if you do...don't you want to make sure it gets to them? I would much rather mail it to the garbage guys then hope they see where I taped it on the can.

Because I don't think that if you are going to tip someone, it should be discussed. If I think you provide a high level of service I will find a way to get your tip to you, period. A postcard is asking to be tipped, and that is wrong. Sanitation workers are Union and pretty well paid.

I can see your point. But I think it's just to the people who are gonna tip, if you do, sending to PO box is better. It doesn't say "tip us or else". Though I do find it funny that every single Sunday paper has an envelope for our delivery guy in it. I mean, every Sunday? I send him something for Christmas and that's it.

Personally, I feel it doesn't matter how much you are paid. If I am happy with your service, I will give you a Christmas Bonus so to speak. I get one and I am very thankful for it every year. But like I stated previously, not all sanitation workers are paid well. Especially not in the beginning. But again, I don't care what you make. It's our way of saying Thank You.

Gift for mailman and garbage men?

In my mind you should tip only if someone went above and beyond their normal job description. You don't get a tip for just doing your job. We will be tipping the garbage men. We moved in a few months ago and they took the time to stop and let us know garbage pick up days and if it's raining they bring up my pails. The mailman doesn't even acknowledge my existence, so no tip. Our UPS man is a saint and brings all my heavy packages (i was on a pottery barn kick) into my house. I tipped him when he does that and he'll also get a small holiday tip. I don't give a holiday tip to my hairdresser because I tip every time I go.

That's not true. I have had a lot of real life discussions about this as well.

People feel obligated to tip, afraid that their service will suffer if they don't. That is not right IMO.

IMO that's silly

If you get bad service it's bc u have a ****** worker and no tip will change that

I would never tip out of fear

I tip bc it's the holidays and appreciation

I agree. I have never tipped my mail lady and she's awesome. I tried to tip her the first year we moved here and she wouldn't take it.

I DO tip the Dunkin drive through crew a nice amount though BC my order is a PITA and they get it perfect every day lol
