And it's not even a nickname, it's like they just don't hear the "N".
OMG, that always happens to me!
Is Lauren such a difficult name? When I'm introduced to someone they ALWAYS say nice to meet you Laura or nice to meet you Laurie. Drives me totally insane!!

People don't normally mispronounce my first name. However, they'll misspell it, even after I have corrected them. My maiden last name is often pronounced wrong. I've had people tell me that I am pronouncing it wrong and it takes all of the strength I have not to strangle them.

My last name (married one) gets butchered. It's an "I" and people make it an "L" -- so bad that my new job entered me into the system as the "L" so that I was introduced the first day with the wrong first name!

Honestly, I wouldn't ever think to proncoue your name that way!
I've always heard TehReeSa (although usually if it is spelled Theresa, I hear it proncouce TehReeSa) or TehReySa.
Although, I try to pronounce people's names they way they do.

In Jr High, my friend's dad thought I sounded like a boy, I guess, I would think I was saying Kevin & sound all mad that yet another boy was calling his 13 year old daughter!

Yup, even DH says it wrong (he practices but still). My family calls me Sarah with the long A, but most people say sara like tara or dara.

People screw up my name on a daily basis. My favorite is when they get it TOTALLY wrong and just call me any name that begins with an "A"...usually it's Allison.

My last name which is not too hard has been mispronounced so many times and no one can spell it.... it is so fustrating sometimes. I sometimes use my maiden name .

I get Karen first. Then Carol. Then there are neighbors and friends of my parents who still call me Tara.
Then I have to spell my name for people and they go, "Oh really? With a K?.... Not a C?" 
The people who see my name written before they hear it spoken get it incorrect 50% of the time. Half the time I get "Car-ah" (like the automobile) and the other half miraculously get it correct: "Kah-rah."
Don't even get me started on the people who pronounce it "Care-ah"
When I lived down south, I had few problems with my name when I introduced myself. Perhaps it's more common there? (Never met another Kara down there, though) Although one person down south told me he had never heard the name before and thought my parents made it up.

"may-gan", but I get "mee-gan", "meg-gan", "my-gan" all the time.
and forget peolpe spelling it right.
my sister is having a baby, and the name she picked is Maia Elizabeth.
Maia = My-ah. I told her good luck with people getting it right!

i used to cry about this all the time when i was a little girl!
My name is Matilde - YES with an E, italian spelling.
It is pronounced MatilDUH - same as you would pronounce Matilda. and NOT matilDEE
My mom actually had to go talk to my first grade teacher bc she thought I didn't know how to spell my own name and kept correcting it!!!
Anyway, I am VERY sensitive about this but I still have many items from my FILs with Matilda on it - even after nine years of being with their son!
I also get:
Mathilda
Mathilde
Matildee
Mathylda
ooh and i also get "oh i will just call you Mat" or "Can I call you Maddy?"
Nope you can't sorry - you can ONLY call me Matilde. . .I was named after my grandmother, who I never met - so it is VERY important that no one shortens it. . .Tilde is okay only for close friends!
