People say my last name wrong...it is pronounced like a boy's name but they always say it like an article of clothing

All the time especially if they read it and don't hear me say it.

Most people pronounce it either Sandra (like Sandra Dee or Sondra)
I also get Shaaandra (like Sandra Dee with an H)

It should be Shondra (though spelt Shandra)

Some people do

I say My name is Amy!

people say Mimi? I say no, its Aaamee!

then they say oh i get it , its Annie.

I give up! yes Annie it is!

People pronounce my name as
"LESS-LEE"

My mother's intention was that the "s" sound like the s in the word "nose"

I also prefer the pronunciation "LEZ-LEE"

I do not like being called "Less" or "Lez" especially if I introduce myself as "Leslie".

As for my last name, people mutilate it.

My married last name is tricky to spell and pronounce.

I'm happy when I spell it correctly when I spell it out loud!

yes..people mispronounce my name all the time. My name is Genna (pronounced like Jenna) but people call me Gina...its so annoying!

Yes. My name is Barbara but people say "Margaret". I'm a low talker so that exacerbates the problem.

My last name is too difficult to pronounce. I get flack from DH because I pronounce it as it's written & he tries to throw an Italian spin on it.

Yes, sometimes I get Carolyn and I hate that. My name is always mispelled with a C instead of K.

I hate it when I call someone to make an appt, and I tell the girl my name (Melissa) and she says ok "Martha"

i am soooo happy to see that i am not alone on this one.

everybody and their uncle pete calls me ELIZABETH.... that is NOT my name!!

and they NEVER spell it righ! what bothers me the most is when they can't COPY it correctly.

i'll give you a name confussion story that will scare the pants off of you... i'll keep it short...

i was 6mos preggo and i had a dr appt. the nurse looked up my paperwork and called my name. she weighed me and took my b.p., and asked me to sit in an exam room (so far so good), the dr walks in the room flushed!! asking me a million questions about my pregnancy and is two seconds away from dailing 911!!!! of course he FREAKS ME OUT!!!

long story short... she pulled the file for an elizabeth (with the same last name) who was DUE A MONTH BEFORE MY APPT!!!! they were going to cut me open and take the baby out because the dr thought i was in trouble with a baby 4 weeks overdue!!!!!!

btw: my name is spelled and pronounced LIZBETH... i don't think that's too difficult

Yup. I get "Christian" a lot for some reason. Also, I can tell already that DD is going to have a lot of problems. I often have to repeat her name several times. Her Great Grandparents STILL can't say it correctly and she's almost 7 months old.

"my name is daphne (DAF-KNEE)"

other person:
"tiffany?"

me:
"daphne"

other person:
"stephanie?"

me: (exasperated)
"daphne!!!!, with a "D"!

other person:
"bethany?"

me:
"yes...bethany!"


i absolutely hate being called
"DAF-FEEN", or "DAF-NA"

My name is Deborah. It is pronounced Deb-OH-rah. They always forget the "OH" part. To make matters worse, when I am asked my name and I tell them "Deborah", they will, inevitably, say "Debbie". I was "Debbie" when I was a little girl and it drives me insane when someone does this.

My first reaction to this question is NO because I've never had anyone butcher my name. Isn't it pretty easy? BUT.....
I was in the dr.'s office today, and they're calling someone...
Rayshell.....Rayshell...Is there a Rayshell here?
I thought she was saying Rochelle, so I wasn't listening. When no one answered, I stopped her and said, "Do you mean Rachel?"
And she yells back behind the desk, "Was that name RACHEL? Or Rayshell?"
And I hear this guy go, "Uhhhh....."
And the nurse was like, "You're an idiot!"
I'm glad SHE said it


ETA: My last name is short and simple and no one pronounces that correctly.
