What age did you switch from a file to a clipper?

Re: Clipping nails

DD is 5.5 months and I bite them. When I attempted to use a nail clipper, I cut DD's finger and thought I took a huge chunk off. Thankfully it was just a cut. MIL tried clipping and the same thing happened.

Sooo now I just bite the nails off. I'm just too afraid if cutting her little fingers again. Chat Icon

Clipping nails

Never used a file. I would clip them while she was sleeping.

I can't remember exactly, but maybe around 3-4 months? I was terrified of using the nail clipper for awhile, but it wasn't so bad!

Me too. I attempted to use the file for about 2 minutes, then went to go get the clipper.

Same here. I only use a file if there is a sharp point that needs to be softened.

Re: Clipping nails

I think I ONLY used a file on DS#1. This guy, I use the clippers sometimes but have a really hard time with it. I cut him once and so did DH - baby didn't notice but the bleeding upset me.Chat Icon
I want to do it when he's sleeping, but if he's sleeping I'm too afraid to wake him and I want him to sleep. Chat Icon

I thin I only filed the first 2 or 3 weeks. Then I tarted clipping and never looked back.

I tried the file in the beginning. Took forever. Someone on here suggested using cuticle cutters and that worked out great!

Re: Clipping nails

I use a clipper, and then just file quick on the edges to blunt them.

Re: Clipping nails

I got a set from bru that had a file, clipper, and baby nail scissor. I actually like the scissor the most. He has the graco nasal aspirator that plays music so usually I'll play the music from that while I cut his nails and he will let me. Usually I'll do it on the changing table after a diaper change when needed. I find the angle is best on there.
