how old was your DC when you started clipping nails?
My DD is 6wks and her finger nails are long, but toes arent. Im too scared to clip, i tried filing but she doesnt like. I put the mittens over her hands so she doesnt scratch face, but im afraid when she tightens her fists she will cut her hands.

I personally do not recommend using the baby nail clipper. You can not visualize the nail and finger when you use it. I cut DD the first time I tried, and I was traumatized bigtime. I either filed or used a small nail scissor from then on.

Oh i have no desire to use clippers!!! I never thought about the small nail scissors, ill have to get a pair and try.

I didnt use the nail clippers when DD was a newborn - I just filed them at about 6 or 8 weeks old - they were LONG! In my experience, toe nails dont grow as fast....

Same. I put on one of her Einstein videos--she's captivated and it's easier for me to clip.

I clipped them in the hospital! Then I started filing them since the doc recommended it - but I found that to be WAY annoying and time consuming. Then I clipped them and I CUT my poor little DD.  That scarred me for a bit, but I'm back to clipping them now with a new and improved technique. 
(How's that for a long-winded, somewhat derailed reply?  )

My friend told me to just bite his nails off (Sorry if it sounds gross). I've done it twice & it works great--much easier & no sharp edges

i've been filing his nails... but i have to do it when he's sleeping. My dr. said not to clip them yet.
I use the mittens too but i feel bad that they are always on and i want his hands to breathe...i took them off yesterday for a little and wouldn't you know it, he cut his face .. so the mittens are back on.
His toenails haven't grown much at all. I filed them right after we got home from the hospital and havent had to since!

I've been clipping them since she was just a few weeks. Oddly enough she doesn't mind it at all!! Nicholas on the other hand..I snipped him once when he was little and he's traumatized for life!
