Like can both people sign it and deposit it??
yes
Actually MANY banks will not take double endorsed checks anymore. Of course, only if both people are on the account (which is not the senario I believe the OP is referring to).
TD Bank won't let us do that anymore.
I just did it with TD BANK yesterday. Someone made a check out to my little girl and I just signed her name then my name under it and it was fine.
Maybe it's different with children then, or even branch specific, teller specific or dollar amount specific.
In my experience, I've been to a couple of different TD branches over the years, and they would not allow double endorsed checks if the other person wasn't on the bank account. They said the person had to be added to the account before they would deposit it. These were government issued tax checks, not personal checks, so it wasn't like there was a question if the funds would clear.
Yup same here. DH and I were there together and they still wouldn't let us do it. We tried multiple branches with no luck. They all said that they do not accept double endorsed checks anymore. This was last year though... maybe things are different now?

Chase lets me do this. I was told that I have to have at least the same amount in my account as the check. Like if the check was for $1000 I had to have at least $1000 in my account.

Bethpage FCU does not allow this either
I've never had a problem and I bank with them. I also use the ATM exclusively though.

Re: Can you deposit a check in someone else's name in your account
Banks can say all they want "the don't allow it". But they MUST do it according to UCC. They are simply going to tell unsuspecting customers they don't allow it to limit their liability. A bank tried to do this once to me and I simply told them they are breaking the UCC laws. Of course the teller had no idea what UCC was.
It's really easy to do this at any bank that doesn't allow it. Go to a teller with your properly endorsed checks and deposit them. If they say no, ask for the branch manager and tell them if they don't accept the check you will report them to the NY state banking commission. You won't have a problem at this point.
Or just deposit them through the ATM. This is pretty much guaranteed to work every time. They aren't going to reject an ATM check because then you have written proof of them breaking the law. You have them dead to rights for a report to the banking commission. They accept these all the time.
