I spoke with someone who works there and they said they would have to raise cables prices for what Scripps wants to charge.
Well then since these channels have been dropped, Cablevision subscribers should see their cable bills REDUCED, right? (I know this would never happen, I'm being sarcastic)

This is the statement from Cablevision:
“We are sorry that Scripps’ current financial difficulties are making it impossible for them to continue our relationship on terms that are reasonable for Cablevision and our customers. We wish Scripps well and have no expectation of carrying their programming again, given the dramatic changes in their approach to working with distributors to reach television viewers.”
We've been talking about switching to DirecTV, and if they don't figure this out by Monday, we'll be switching.
if that statement doesn't scream "THEY WON"T PAY US ENOUGH" from Cablevision.... I hate CV and I don't even live on the Island anymore!
Ladies Ladies Ladies....Its not Cablevisions fault. Cablevision Pays Scripps to carry the content they carry. It is Scripps who is the culprit here. They wanted X amount of dollars per subscriber and Cablevision tried to keep X low so its customers don't have to pay more for thier subscription rate.
I spoke with someone who works there and they said they would have to raise cables prices for what Scripps wants to charge.
You're exactly right. Scripps gets a $ amount per each Cablevision subscriber. When Cablevsion and Scripps went to negotiations, Scripps said they wanted more money. For example, they were charging Cablevision $1 per subscriber and now want $4 per subscriber. Cablevision cannot agree to those terms without raising consumer's prices so they countered Scripps with say $2 per person. Scripps said no way it's $4 per consumer. So Cablevision is not willing to raise it's consumers' prices. Cablevision asked Scripps to keep running the Food Network and HGTV being that they were nearing an agreement, and Scripps said no way. Scripps will not lose Cablevision's account being that they make a ton of money off of Cablevision. I hope this clears things up a bit.
It's an interesting POV but I STILL pay less than CV with FIOS and both channels are offered as well as Fit TV which CV stopped offered also a few years ago.

Is that in Ronkonkoma? Can you do one better and give me a address... It doesn't have to be yours maybe one of your neighbors and I can look that up...
Or you can do it by FM if you want....

Exactly. But, guess what? They won't. It's the same money scheme that they have employed with every single venture of theirs--Newsday, MSG, you name it. It's all about the bottom line, and casting blame on Scripps doesn't lessen CV's own culpability.

Yes, 11779 is in Ronkonkoma. I'm in that zip, and I have FiOS (at least for phone and Internet. I'm happy with my DishNetwork for TV signal, but I do have the option to switch over if I want).

I'm SO upset about this. HGTV is ALL I watch! I guess I'm forced to switch to satellite now since FIOS isn't available in my area yet.

we should start a mail in campaign...i dont know if anyone remembers the show roswell, but when it got cancelled, fans sent in tabasco bottles (it had meaning to the story line). and it got saved.
we should mail in spatulas and paintbrushes to cablevisions headquarters in support of the food network and hgtv!

Scripps did pull the shows. Annoying, but it's Cablevision's fault. If they don't come to an agreement soon, I am switching away from Cablevision. I'm tired of their cutting services - at the price they charge, it outrageous.

I think everyone who is running to swich providers are ridiculous. Scripps is causing the problem here. Not Cablevision. What do you think will happen when Verizon or dish network go to renew their contracts with Scripps? They are going to do the same thing.
Cablevision is taking a stand on behalf of the consumer. I hope they win the battle.
Cablevision doesn't have a huge market but it has a KEY market. I see something working out very soon.

If you are saying that Scripps pulled the shows, how can you say this is CV's fault? For not absorbing a 400% price increase and not passing it along to their customers?
And what services is Cablevision cutting? From what I have seen, Cablevision has been ADDING services. What are they cutting?

They recently took away major channels (MTV, E, to name a few) unless you have a cable box. We pay some of the highest cable rates in the nation, yet we get newer channels last.
Im sure its Scripps & CV, but knowing the history of CV and how crappy they are, im sure they are partly to blame.

I emailed Cablevision to find out how much my bill will be going down since they removed the 2 channels. If I want to add channels, I have to pay more----they took away channels so now we should pay less.
Also, if Cablevision got rid of some of the channels that nobody watches, they could pay Scripps more w/out raising rates.

This is what I'm very curious about.
If they are paying out for them than neither should we.
