Just got an email from Cablevision about HGTV and Food Network.
IMO, I think it's part of the contract renego and one of the parties is just playing hardball. They did the same thing with Noggin/Nick a year or so ago.

I just got an email from HGTV & Food Network. I will be really mad if they take these channels away. I love watching both of them. I may have to switch if they do.

It's on the Food Network website.
I will switch to FIOS.
ETA: Just saw this on the Food Network facebook page:
"just called cablevision and they said that they are in negotiations with the parent company for HGTV and Food network. Apparently they have reached a verbal agreement and they are just waiting for the paperwork to be done. They also said we should not be losing any service. ."

"Cablevision's agreement with Scripps Networks to carry HGTV and Food Network expires at midnight tonight (December 31, 2009), and a new agreement has not been reached. Cablevision offered and hoped to continue carrying the channels while we work to reach a new agreement. Unfortunately, Scripps is threatening to remove the channels from Cablevision's system. We are hopeful that Scripps will choose to continue delivering HGTV and Food Network programming to our customers."
DH works at Cablevision and said this is common at this time of the year. Generally people make a big enough stink about it and a contract is reached. If anything, you're without the channels for a couple days until the contract is signed, but that usually doesn't happen.

Not on my TV - I'm getting a message from Cablevision that they tried to negotiate with "Scripps" but couldn't reach an agreement with them.
