Re: Anyone see the post about GWL on facebook?
I'm sorry but I think both of them were wrong. I do think they should have provided some flip flops or something but they did change her room and were having their belongings treated. I do think it is unreasonable to expect compensation for all new belongings. My husband's office in the city had bed bugs. One of his reports found one in his home and the company paid to have the home exterminated but did not replace all their belongings.
As far as GWL getting their legal department involved that is standard protocol for any company. I do believe that the truth probably lies somewhere in the middle of both of their accounts.

Customer Service goes a long way. I think they are trying to undo the damage and I don't buy the story they posted online.

They are DISGUSTING! Again, I personally know this woman and that DID NOT happen AT ALL. This is the WORST PR and attempt at damage control I have EVER seen. This is appalling!
ETA: Im not actually seeing this posted on their FB page or Website, so who knows. Is it a response to an email someone sent? I know the woman has not posted it on her own FB page either.
Looks like an email.

Anyone see the post about GWL on facebook?
I think they should have refunded her whole stay, given her and her family an allowance to buy what they needed while their belongings were being treated. Like go to Walmart or Target and get some undergarments, sweats & a sweatshirt. Maybe $40 to $50 a person would have done it. I think if she expected them to pay for everything she brought there, then she was wrong to expect that. I am not sure of all the specifics, but if she wrote her review based on them not paying for all of her belongings, then she is wrong. If they didn't offer an allowance, or to grab some things from their gift shop so her family could wear something while their stuff was being cleaned then the hotel is wrong. Like I said I do not know all of the specifics, but it sounds like it may have come down to that, the way she said they threw them out with thin PJ's and no shoes etc...

Re: Anyone see the post about GWL on facebook?
I must say- when this happened to us at WDW last year
They to had to take EVERYTHING we had with us to heat treat them
They gave us an allowance to go shopping for whatever we needed to get us by for the next 48 hrs while they were treating our stuff
They also upgraded us to another Disney resort
They went above and beyond for the iinconvience
I agree with others on this - THERE IS 2 sides to this

I was planning on a GWL trip in the near future and now I will NEVER go. Aside from the bedbugs (gross), their customer service is appalling.
And for the record, it was this family's 5th YEAR in a row going to this place AND it was her son's BIRTHDAY. How sad that they treated a kid like this on his birthday.

Many of you are missing the part of her post (in the comments) where she says that GWL decided NOT to treat any of their things and gave them summer pajamas to leave in. No shoes. No socks. She BOUGHT a pair of crocks from their gift shop so she could dig her car out when they were asked to leave.

Re: Anyone see the post about GWL on facebook?
I know the girl this happened to. She is a friend of mine from both here and another mommy's group that I belong to. She is a sweet soul, a good person. ...one who is never involved in drama posts and never jumps on the band wagon to bash other posters as so many other people do. I've always been a firm believer that there are 2 sides to every story however I don't believe that to be the case here. The way her family was treated during a family getaway to celebrate her son's birthday was absolutely deplorable. Bed bugs can happen anywhere. But the severe lack of customer service- not to mention the lack of human kindness was disgusting.

Anyone see the post about GWL on facebook?
i am fb friends with her. I know her from LIW and LIF, very nice woman, I've never seen her involved in any drama.
I believe when GWL got wind of the fact that she blasted them on FB, they changed their tune. They started saying how the exterminator didn't find any trace of bed bugs and then proceeded to kick her out.
Sure, bed bugs can happen anywhere however, the way they handled the situation was truly deplorable. I am sure they are going to back peddle and say how they bent over backwards but i don't buy it! They are going twist the story.
I know i won't be going there ever!

"She said I could tell whoever I want and they were going to go ahead and follow protocol, have the room and my things heat treated (later she told me they are NOT treating the room)."

Re: Anyone see the post about GWL on facebook?
I saw the post and read the comments. All I can say is this happens, it isn't a reflection on the hotel. With that said, I know I would freak out if I thought there was a bed bug in my room too. However, being offered a refund for the night, pajamas, and a hotel employee getting diapers for my child isn't horrible customer service. I'm sure there is more to the story. No hotel is going to give you money to go and get new clothing when they can clean what's there, nor will they comp the entire trip if you are moved to another room. If that was the case people would be bringing their own bed bugs in to get a free vacation!

my understanding is that they did all that and when they found out about the fb comment and received a few phone calls regarding bed bugs/cancellations they then changed the story, said the exterminator found no trace of bed bugs, couldn't find the bed bug that was brought to them and then wanted her off the premises. that is the what I take away from the whole fiasco.

How can you say this isn't a reflection of the hotel? Bed Bugs are not acceptable under any circumstances. They need to check for this stuff. It should not happen.

Here is the Facebook Post
I hope she spoke to a lawyer, took her baby to get checked out for the bites and disputed the charges with her cc company. She never posted the picture of the bed bug or any other updates. EIther she was advised to keep quiet if she contacted an attorney or something is not right.

No, it shouldn't happen but it does quite often because people and their luggage carry them. One bed bug doesn't mean in infestation. It's easy to miss one. I would be disgusted if I found one and would either just leave or accept the new room.

What's really gross to think about is all these people who are bringing the bed bugs into these places in their luggage. As in, how many people are living with bed bugs in their homes. (SHUDDER)

I just read her post for the first time via the link provided above. By her own account, they offered and did in fact heat treat her clothes. It is proven that heat 120 degrees) kills bed bugs. It seems from her post that from the get go - even before the heat treatment - she expected a full reimbursement of all her belongings. That, to me, is ridiculous. I don't think any company would pay to replace all your possessions unless there was proof that the heat treatment did not work. They changed her room, gave her clothes for the night ( the time best treatment would take). Yes they could have been a little more compassionate it seems bu like I said in my post above I think both parties are at fault here. I do find it hilarious that people are telling her to get a lawyer - there is no injury - physical or financial and thus no cause of action.
