Re: Anyone NOT take narcotics for pain right after c-section?
I did NOT like the idea of taking Percocets. I think I took them twice and I requested something not as strong. I don't like to feel out of it.
I actually refused pain medication the evening of the day after my c-section and I didn't take anything else until I got home, which is when I started taking Motrin.
Everyone is different though.

Re: Anyone NOT take narcotics for pain right after c-section?
Everyone is different. I was real hesitant to take Percocet but by day 3 I was in so much pain I could barely get out of bed. My heart rate was really fast and the drs said I needed a Cat Scan to make sure I didnt have a blood clot in my lung(your heart rate can go really fast with that) so iI had to fess up that it was fast because I was in dire pain. I took Percocet and then I was fine. I had an emergency c though, they opened me pretty quick, DH didn't have time to even come in, so I think that has something to do with it.
You could very well need no pain meds at all. Just don't be ashamed to take them if you are in pain, it's silly. You dont get an award for being "tough".

I took a Percocet one time in the hospital and it didn't take the pain away just made me loopy. After that I didn't take it.
same here...I took the Percocet once or twice and it just made me feel really out of it. I just took Motrin after that. I also told my doctor and anesthegiologist (sp?) that I didn't want Morphin during the c/s. I had it after a surgery years ago and I couldnt stop throwing up.

Re: Anyone NOT take narcotics for pain right after c-section?
I only took Motrin when I had DS. My last night in the hospital I thought I'd try & get a good nights rest & took Percocet (I think) and was so sick & light eased the next morning. With my niece I took Motrin only & was fine.
That my intention for this time too.

I didn't ~ with DS I was drugged and I hated it ~ I just had #2 and I chose to go no meds only if I needed something orally and honestly It was not bad and I felt so much better not being drugged up.

Re: Anyone NOT take narcotics for pain right after c-section?
I took dilaudid through my hospital stay for both c-sections and maybe a few more times after that. I had an easier recovery the second time, but still needed pain medication early on. I felt loopy right after surgery, but don't really remember feeling out of it after that.

Re: Anyone NOT take narcotics for pain right after c-section?
I was given morphine, A LOT of morphine after my surgery and I can honestly say I have never been so sick and miserable in my life. I was down and out for 12 hrs after my C section, miserable and sick beyond belief and unable to even sit up to see my DD. I had NO idea I would have that reaction to morphine, I had never used pain meds before. I was fine with the Percocet and Vicadin once I was in the maternity wing but the morphine was bad news for me.
When I deliver this baby, if I end up with a C, I am refusing the morphine, I want no part of it. The pain is pretty awful post surgery but having been through the morphine experience once, I will gladly take the pain over how I felt on that medication. The other meds are fine but no way I will take morphine ever again.

I only took ibuprofen after my csections.
Me too. I only took Codiene one time after the csec and I was so out of it,I could not care for DD. So I stopped taking it.

Re: Anyone NOT take narcotics for pain right after c-section?
I took mostly motrin, they did give me something else once or twice and it made me sick. So then I just stuck to the mortrin.
When I came home, I had a RX for percocet but never filled it. Just took OTC Motrin and was fine.

Anyone NOT take narcotics for pain right after c-section?
I took the Percocet the night of my second day post op. It made me hallucinate and at that point I told DH that I didn't care if my arm was falling off, I would never take that again. So I have been survivng on Motrin pretty much around the clock. I am 6 days PP.

Re: Anyone NOT take narcotics for pain right after c-section?
I had pain meds in my epidural block for the first day or 2. Once the block came out, I took 800mg of ibuprofen. I had a very easy recovery.

I only took Motrin after both c-sections. Both kids were in the NICU and I wanted to be alert and out of bed as soon as possible so I could go see them.

Re: Anyone NOT take narcotics for pain right after c-section?
I had a morphine pump after for the first night I think? Then I took pain meds as I needed. I wanted to make sure when I had time to sleep I was able to and not up bc of pain. My babies were in the NICU too so I was up and down out of bed and down the hall multiple times a day.

Re: Anyone NOT take narcotics for pain right after c-section?
You can't really plan for that. My pain reliever line ( whatever is in that) fell out of my spine right after my surgery I was in the worst pain and the anest. People could not figure out for hours my line had come out. I wound up on percocet after, it made me very tired but I needed it. Once I Got home I switched over to aleve.

Re: Anyone NOT take narcotics for pain right after c-section?
For my first c section I was overloaded with pain meds after the baby was out because I had a horrible surgery. I think I had a morphine pump for the next day but dont remember. I dont remember the baby being born and the next 24 hours was a drugged up blur! I ended up throwing up twice after I left recovery. Then I took percocet.
My second c section was recent and they gave me pain meds in the spinal that lasted 24 hours. I also took percocet and a 6 hour motrin but the nurses were very stingy and I had to sometimes exaggerate my paid for them to give me the pain killers. I honestly had a really good recovery I probably didnt need them and I just had motrin at home with no issues.

Re: Anyone NOT take narcotics for pain right after c-section?
Lord only knows what they gave me, but I felt VERY LOOPY and horrible for the entire first day. I was throwing up, dizzy, weak and I don't remember much of it, but having so much anxiety about being so sick. It really was terrible. If i have to have another section, I will ask for only Mortin.

Re: Anyone NOT take narcotics for pain right after c-section?
I didn't take anything. I never did well with narcotic pain meds, so I refues them. I also wasn't in pain after my c-section and just took Motrin for it and it was fine.

Anyone NOT take narcotics for pain right after c-section?
Thanks SO much everyone. This really gives me hope. Of course, I will play it by ear, but I *reeeeally* don't want to be loopy/out of it/sick from narcotics. It's a scheduled c (if I don't go early), so hopefully that's a better prognosis.
