Ack! DS is getting his DOC band today - QUICK UPDATE
(aka his baby helmet)!
When I first found out he needed one, I was so upset about it and then I felt an immense guilt over not realizing it myself sooner. However, I feel very proud to be his biggest advocate - I myself reached out to the specialists to get him evaluated because I felt his head shape was off, despite the fact that his ped and everyone else told me it was fine and would "fix itself" once he started sitting up more and rolling more, etc. I am so happy I went out and had him checked (and thanks to LoveMySMT for posting pics of her DD's before and after because it was at that point that I figured out that it wasn't all in my head since her before pic looked like my DS's head!). But I still feel guilty that I didn't know sooner, silly I know, but it's there. Overall I felt fine about this and just want to get the process started so it can finish sooner.
But now that the day is here and he'll be getting it in a couple of hours, I feel so bad - worried, thinking he's going to hate it, be uncomfortable, etc. How are people going to look at him? Are they going to think he has a mental disability? Are they going to PITY him???  
Lots of emotions. Overall I'm so happy that this isn't something worse, that it is correctable and that he has no developmental issues because of it. I feel very lucky that my baby was born so early, only weighed 3 lbs and is now this big, healthy baby boy... so he'll need a little helmet for up to 3 months... it will be ok. I just hope he adjusts quickly and people don't stare at him horribly.
Thanks for "listening"... I'm a ball of emotions right now. Gotta run and go pick up my boy for his appointment!
Quick Update:
I am so proud of my boy!!!! He was COMPLETELY unphased! Smiled the whole time when they first put it on him and every time DH and I practised taking it off and putting it on. Never once even tried to touch it! He's knocked out right now in his carseat as we drive back home. And hey I'm biased, but I think he looks SOOOO cute in it! :)

Owen tried to rip it off at first but never again after that, he really seems okay with it.
I will tell you how surprised I was at some of the looks/assumptions we get from people when they see DS. Most of it is looks of pity. A couple people asked me if he wears it because he has seizures. The cashier at CVS kep staring at him but didn't ask. Another cashier out right asked what the helmet was for.
I'm also surprised at how many people who have children with disabilities now come up and talk to me. I'm not sure why and I don't mind at all but I think they see the helmet and assume it's because of a condition and maybe we have something in common. I don't know, it's just a shot in the dark, but we do have something in common-kids-so let's go ahead an chat.
I don't know if you will experience all of this-it surprised me because I thought helmets for flatness were pretty common these days.
In any case It will be fine. He will get used to it, you will get used to it and it will be over soon.

I remember how nervous we were when we got DS's helmet. He got used to it after a little bit, though, and so did we. It became just another part of our routine (the cleaning and such) and it helped him so much.

Such a sweet boy!!! I totally expect that he would look cute in his helmet...he's such an adorable little boy! And he's so good with it already....yay!!!!!

Glad he did well!
DD grew to love her helmet. When it was off, she would try and put it back on herself
He will adapt faster than you ever could have imagined - and you will get so used to seeing him in it that when he doesn't have to wear it anymore, he will look funny to you for a while 
It will be coming off before you know it!!

Thanks everyone. I posted a pic in the first post I got better shots with my regular camera, that's just from my blackberry.
Colette, yes, we're getting a design put on it! I have to wait until early next week to get it done. Can't wait!
