Caregiver/coxsackie question
Hi, one of my kids is on day 3 or 4 of coxsackie virus. Still has blisters. My mothers helper watches other kids on different days. Should I tell her not to come tomorrwo? Should I give her a heads up? Adults don't usually get it but I guess it's possible. Ugh, these are the days where I really need the help!

Re: Caregiver/coxsackie question
My mother watched mine for the entire week m-f when she had it this summer. Neither if my parents got it not did we.
However my friends husband got it one year and my girlfriend got it this year from her daughter. So it's possible.

Re: Caregiver/coxsackie question
My DH got it. He was VERY sick and in bed for days. At the end of the days in bed, his fingers slightly started to peel. If your DC is sick, you should not have anyone come to be honest.

Re: Caregiver/coxsackie question
Thanks. I will probably tell her not to come. It sucks though. I have two year old triplets, one has special needs, and in days where they are sick and miserable it is unbelievably tough. Those are the days where I need help the most. But I agree, not fair to my sitter to risk it.

Yes she could get it adults do get it. But I would be worried she would get it and give it to the other children she watches.

Caregiver/coxsackie question
My ds had it mild. No blisters just the fever.
My FIL watches him 1 day and got it and then spread it to all the adults around him.
This was the first summer I heard of more adults with it than kids.

Re: Caregiver/coxsackie question
Our EI teachers didn't come b/c they have kids and deal with other kids.
You need to use bleach and 65% plus alcohol to kill it (hand sanitizer). Some people use Clorox wipes or whatever organic wipes, but it wont' kill coxsackie. I bleached all my kids toys in the sink and used hand sanitizer after diaper changes until I could wash my hands.

Even if she doesn't get it, it is likely she would be a carrier and still spread it.
First time DS had it it was such a mild case we did not realize until after DH got a really bad case (he was a mess for 5 days, fever, pain in throat, could not walk, eat, etc.).

Re: Caregiver/coxsackie question
I agree with not having her come but I'm not sure when it would be safe to have her back either. DD and DS had it this summer and it seemed to linger for weeks. I also researched it to death and couldn't find any solid information regarding when they're no longer contagious, it seems like it can be contagious for weeks.
I'd ask your ped what their opinion is on when it's no longer contagious (this seems to vary).
eta- I'm not suggesting you isolate your child for weeks, just pointing out that there doesn't seem to be a concrete answer as to when this isn't contagious. It's a PITA!

Yes adults do get it. I got it 2 times and its horrible I think they are still contagious when the have the fever and up to 5 days after the blisters. I know my FIL got it the worst .
Definetly tell her. You should be careful to I thought I was and i had a fever of 104.2 I thought I was going to die.

Re: Caregiver/coxsackie question
Well I guess you were all right about adults getting it because now I have it. I had a transient fever two nights ago, and thought maybe I got a very mild, brief form of it. Nope. Today I saw a few red tiny spots, now my hands and mouth are full of them. I told babysitter is see her next week (if that). Ugh.

I hope you feel better. I know my DH was very sick for a few days.
