kind of annoyed UPDATE- strike 2
my coworker is pregnant (no, im not annoyed about that )
she doesnt seem to know what she's not supposed to eat while pregnant. she told me that she didnt know that hot chocolate had caffeine in it. and totay she's eating a ham and cheese sandwich. i mean, its not such a big deal, but i would assume that someone who is educated and has access to the internet would have researched this already... all i said to her was "i dont think you're supposed to eat cold cuts." i'd love to tell her more, but ill keep my mouth shut. ok vent over thanks for listening
UPDATE: she dyed her hair last night. is she trying to do everything on the DO NOT list?

Re: kind of annoyed
well it deneds what her doc told her... lots of docs say you can eat everything in moderation...
if shes eating ham sandwiches every single day then i might be like... what are you doing?!!!
and the same with caffiene... she can have caffiene just not a crazy amount every day

Re: kind of annoyed UPDATE- strike 2
honestly... every doctor has their own set of rules, my doctors went by everything in moderation... which ment i could have turkey cold cuts 1 time a day, with a diet coke same for hot dogs and tuna... that didnt mean i ate them everyday but i was allowed. some doctors say NOT AT ALL. so i think it all depends

again, its just that she doesnt KNOW that these can be issues. she;s totally comfortable with doing it all because she doesnt know that it could be potentially harmful.

& for you!
I'd cut her some slack, she sounds new to this. Also not every dr. will tell you to cut everything including coldcuts out. When I had dc#1 my dr. said everything in moderation while other dr's will say cut out/avoid certain things. To each their own

Re: kind of annoyed UPDATE- strike 2
It's all about personal preference -- every doc has different rules and everyone has different comfort levels.
I waited until 14 wks to dye my hair --but I did highlights and was told I could have done it earlier if I wanted to...because it doesn't go to the root.
Cold cuts? I eat them all the time, so I guess I'm a bad preggo. lol In reality the chance of listeria from cold cuts is so low, you have a better chance of getting e. coli from cooked chicken.
The "do not" lists are not the be all, end all.
ETA: Not everyone believes you need to 'google' everything under the sun about pregnancy. There are those who have the mentality of "well my mom and her mom before her did it without google and baby books...so can I."
So I wouldn't judge her about not being very informed, every pregnancy and person is different.

Re: kind of annoyed UPDATE- strike 2
I am like you, I read every book, research every little detail and want to know the do's and don'ts. So I like you would be kind of surprised that an educated person does not know what nutrition is good/bad for their baby.
Some people are not "worriers" or researchers like us. For me, I like to be in the know, do what I feel is best for my baby.
But many will tell you "my mom smoked and drank and Im fine, a turkey sandwich won't hurt my baby" if that thinking works for them, so be it

Re: kind of annoyed UPDATE- strike 2
yeah i dont think this should annoy you. it really has nothing to do with you at all.
im 18w and had a ham and cheese sandwich today, and I KNOW it's bad. isnt it worse to KNOW something is bad and do it anyway than to be ignorant of it??
i went through a lot of c@p to get pregnant. my friend is also pregnant now, 10 weeks behind me. she didnt do much to get her BFP. she used OPKs but she had no idea when to test or when AF was due. she got her BFP. it was ENLIGHTENING to me how little she knew about TTC and early pregnancy. she has a uterine condition and although she was nervous early on, she didnt really know how nervous she needed to be although I did. it was eye-opening to me how she could just be so cautiously optimistic. for many people, ignorance is bliss, and part of me wishes i could have enjoyed that as well instead of knowing all too much about what was going on inside of me.
so dont be too hard on your friend, some people need ignorance!!

i like the way you think!!
again, FTR, its not that it bothers me in a personal way. i care for my coworker and i'd never wish ill on her. i didnt know that in this day and age people dont know some things that i would consider "common" knowledge. lesson learned.

Re: kind of annoyed UPDATE- strike 2
has she gone to a doctor yet?
the amount of caffeine in one drink of hot chocolate is definitely less than the daily intake you are allowed.... so all in all she is fine having hot chocolate. I think swiss miss is like 2-5 mg of caffeine and the daily limit is 200. So she is more than safe with the hot chocolate.
the dying hair... that's not usually OK in the first trimester. but I'm sure there are some people who have done it before and all is well.
as far as researching on the internet... some people just don't do those things. there are a lot of people who get into things blindly and don't do research like you might. she might not even be aware there are any restrictions at all.
i think she needs to go to a dr and see what the dr instructs. doctors give different advice on the topics you posted about. some doctors even say cold cuts are fine so long as they are from a reputable place where they aren't sitting there for a long period of time.

ohh this answers my quetion. there are doctors that say dying hair in the 2nd trimester is fine.
i really wouldn't focus any energies on her outlook of her pregnancy or every little thing she is eating, drinking or doing. And i surely wouldn't be upset over her doing these minor things you posted. had you written that she got black out drunk, was smoking cigarettes or doing drugs... that would be another story. the topics you posted about are minor and not all doctors are strict about them at all. for all you know her doctor could have told her that these things are OK to do... because some doctors do say they are OK.

Re: kind of annoyed UPDATE- strike 2
I would honestly hate to think that my co-workers were sitting there being that concerned over what i was eating when they eventually know that i'm pregnant (i'm only 6w now) I'll be following my dr's advice, not my co-workers
Maybe her dr told her that it's ok, maybe he didn't and she chose to ignore his advice, maybe she knows all the info and chooses to do these things anyway. You don't really know, and it's really not any of your business. She's educated and has access to the internet.. so what? maybe she's not super psycho about being pregnant and is just taking things in moderation on the advice of her dr.
Let her be
