Kind of annoyed. (vent)
I talked to my stepmom today and she was complaining about all the Christmas gifts she has to buy for the grandkids. She has 9 grandkids and she said that we have to stop procreating because her budget is getting stretched thinner and thinner.
I got off the phone very annoyed. She doesn't know I'm pregnant yet and won't find out until Christmas. I feel that all the excitement out of announcing it was taken away. Is it just my pregnancy hormones or would you be annoyed by that comment too?

I'm sure she didn't mean it seriously. maybe things are tight and she was just commenting more on her economic situation than your possible situation, KWIM? I wouldn't take it personally.

oh I am sure she didn't mean it! She would probably be so happy if she knew you were pregnant. You know she would have never vented to you in that way if she knew ( or at least I would hope she wouldn't)

I would be annoyed too, but I'm sure she didn't really mean it. I mean, I complain about buying 14 kids gifts at Christmas time, but only because it's hard to spend all that at once, not because I don't want to buy them gifts, KWIM?

I agree with everyone else. She probably was joking around and didn't mean it seriously. If she seriously felt that way, I don't think she'd say it so casually.

That sounds exactly like the kind of thing my own mother would say   I would be irritated too, and when you "come out" on Christmas tell her you don't expect any gifts for this LO next year
