Are you turning on your CAC yet?

Our house feels so hot. It is not a problem downstairs but our bedrooms are upstairs and even with all the windows open it is still 80 up there.

I wouldn't care so much except that we have a 19-month-old and I feel like it's too warm for him to sleep comfortably up there (he does have a ceiling fan).

Are you turning on your CAC now that it's supposed to be at least mid-70's going forward?

Once we turn it on it stays on until Sept, it's more efficient to run it constantly. I like the fresh air coming in though.

ETA: To answer my own question, I wound up turning it on at about 6PM. My DS has a fever and I didn't feel comfortable having him sleep in a room that was 80 degrees.

Re: Are you turning on your CAC yet?

Yes! With the humidity my hardwood floors were starting to feel sticky so I put it on a few days ago.

I'm terrible..we've had ours on since easter sunday..granted it doesn't go on all that often, but at night i like it cold so it goes down to 67 degrees.

We did -- it just takes away the humidity and makes it more comfortable. We have balanced billing for electric, so we are more "free" with the CAC than with our heat.

I turn mine on when I feel hot.

Ironically I have found that it is not more effcient to run my unit non stop. We both work during the day so the unit gets turned off between 8am and 6pm every day.

I had my system metered and I actually used MORE electric turning off the system during the day (letting the temperature rise), and turning it on when I got home... vs leaving set at 72 all day.

The reason for this is probably due to the fact that I have a very powerful CAC system that can run a second stage and cool down the house very quickly which uses less electric than constantly maintaining the temperature.

We did last night for the exact reason you said. DD had "light" pajamas on and was drenched with sweat. I've run the fan feature a few times but it was just too hot last night.

no, we are trying hard not to just yet because our electric bill is ridiculous in the summer... we've been putting the ceiling fan on in the bedroom..

Re: Are you turning on your CAC yet?

We have to put it in. DH doesn't want to put the window unit in because it's loud so we still have to have one put in the wall.

So I will suffer tonight for sure again.

We have one downstairs and I guess I could sleep on the couch.

Re: Are you turning on your CAC yet?

I don't have CAC, I have two wall units downstairs, but I have them on now. The pollen was killing me today, I had trouble breathing, and the heat didn't help, so on they both went. It's very cmfortable, and I can breathe clearly now.

Bonus - the dogs aren't barking because they can't hear anything outside!!! Yeah!!!

Re: Are you turning on your CAC yet?

We haven't turned ours on yet. Just the window open and the fan on. I still use the blanket too. It is quite cool in our bedroom with just the one window open.

Past two nights we've had it running. It's been 81 upstairs..way too hot for DD. If it was just DH and I we would be fine w/ the windows & fan, but not for her.

We put it on last week. Our allergies were so bad that we couldn't sleep with the windows open. We have been keeping it on 71 and 74 during the day, so just enough to have comfortable air in the house.

Re: Are you turning on your CAC yet?

Ours has been on at various point. Depends on how hot/humid the house feels.

I love having all my windows and doors open during the day, despite the warmer weather. I turned the CAC on around 4pm today until 6pm because that's when our home tends to reach its hottest/most humid point, but after that it was switched off and the windows and doors were back open.
