Wish lists for the holidays? Yes or No

Poll. I was thinking maybe this was a good idea since I already have many people asking me what they should get DD for Christmas. What do you think? TIA

Re: Wish lists for the holidays? Yes or No

I understand a wedding or baby registry, however, basically registering for Christmas gifts or birthday, or whatever IMO is tacky.

I like to give people an idea such as "DD is really into Strawberry Shortcake" so that they can feel free to pick out something for her themselves. If its not appropriate or its a double gift, then I return it.

Sorry

Re: Wish lists for the holidays? Yes or No

I love when people give me a list of things to buy. If you were to send it out without someone asking first it would be tacky, but I think it's perfectly acceptable to give a list to people who ask.

I put a small one together to help my family out. DD is the fist baby in a long time and I was looking into things she may like based on others recommendations. It is by no means a must have list.

Re: Wish lists for the holidays? Yes or No

Since so many people ask me what to get too, I made an Amazon wishlist in my own account, and when I think of things for DD or she tells me she likes something, I add it to my own wishlist there…this happens throughout the year….so when MIL/my mom/etc ask me what to get her for her b-day, Christmas, etc (or when I want to get her something as a reward) I don’t have to wrack my brain to think of something—I just look at the wishlist. But I don’t send the actual list out….I’ll just go on there when they ask what to get her and give each person a few suggestions.

Re: Wish lists for the holidays? Yes or No

I am making one only for my immediate family members.. They asked me too though..My mom has been asking me what to get and so had my MIL...so I told them about making a wish list.. I was going to make it so they dont buy the same things..Plus I really dont want to return anything after the holidays..lol..I have no problems with it as long as its not pushed on people. Chat Icon

Re: Wish lists for the holidays? Yes or No

I think its a good idea. My family just has me get the kids the gifts and then they pay me back. It is annoying.

Re: Wish lists for the holidays? Yes or No

I keep a running list on Amazon, when I think of things for DS I throw them on there.

This time of year when people start asking for lists, I'll pull up the list to give them some ideas or I'll send them a link if they truly want a "list".

I think it all depends on your family, my family and DHs family both really like lists, if they thought they were tacky they probably wouldn't ask for them! Chat Icon

I have an amazon list but it's more for me to keep track of what I think she would like. I know my mom and other close fam members will ask, but I would never send it out to anyone without them asking.

Re: Wish lists for the holidays? Yes or No

I am making one, sending it to my mom and my MIL, so i am not in the middle of what they are buying. There is no fighting of who can buy this and who can buy that. I don't care if its tacky, it makes my life a WHOLE lot less stressful. If they want to share with our brothers and sisters that is up to them, but I am not sending it out to EVERYONE.

Re: Wish lists for the holidays? Yes or No

I just verbally tell close family. I do say what she wants/needs. Other than that, I would not make a list online

Re: Wish lists for the holidays? Yes or No

Nah... I mean, I DO love when someone tells me an exact gift to get (or choose from a list) but the wish list doesn't work like a registry..not all items come off when purchased...so there can be many dups. Also, I know he's gonna get soo much stuff, and then 2 months later is his 1st bday, so I'll just let everyone be creative and get what they like. Same will go the rest of his life LOL

I've done it in the past, and only told people about it if they asked. I think one or two people looked at it and didn't end up buying anything off the list anyway, so I don't plan on doing it again.

I think someone recently said on here that it backfired on them because unlike a registry, the item doesn't come off the wish list if someone buys it, so her DC got duplicates of things with no gift receipt to return them.

Re: Wish lists for the holidays? Yes or No

I love lists!!! I love getting them because I don't have to think too much and get them something that they might hate and waste my money. And people always ask what to get the kids or DH or myself and I keep a running one on Amazon.

I see nothing wrong with it. If people ask then I give it out. Otherwise I am not going to tell someone to only get stuff off my list.

I think its a good idea, they are going to ask you what your child wants/needs anyways so why not make a list.

I started one for both kids. Family is always asking me what to buy the kids and this year I asked them if they would like for me to make a wishlist on Toys R Us and everyone was thrilled.

Re: Wish lists for the holidays? Yes or No

When I was a kid I would get the Sears Catalog and circle what I wanted.

My mom translated that into a wish list to share with the family.

We use wishlist.com now, so if someone asks (usually the grandparents) I send them the site.

Works pretty well.

I never send it out unsolicited.

Re: Wish lists for the holidays? Yes or No

It is a wish list not a registry...It is like giving someone a Christmas list. I have a bunch of people asking me what to get DS for xmas and I told them he has a wish list at tru...They were so happy to hear it. I think it is a great idea...Most stores have them...

Re: Wish lists for the holidays? Yes or No

I did one on Toysrus. People have already been asking me what to get DD...I have no idea! I don't know what 8-10 months old play with! So, I checked the site and added some age appropriate gifts. I am not sending the list out..but if someone asks in my immediate family, I will let them know it's there. Also, none of our friends have kids, so they've all asked what to get DD too! I told a few close ones about the list.

Re: Wish lists for the holidays? Yes or No

I have one for both DD's.

I plan on giving it to my 2 bil's. Neither have children so they don't always know what to buy.

I have stuff on there for $5 up to about $50. They can get whatever they want.
