Yay or Nay: Wish lists?

I was considering doing a TRU wish list for Sydnie since her b-day and Xmas are coming. Do you do one? Tacky?

I know I sometimes wish people would do things like this, shopping for others can be so tough, especially kids when you're not sure what they already have KWIM?

Re: Yay or Nay: Wish lists?

I was thinking about doing it too. BUT Is it like a registry where you can tell if someone bought it or not. If not, I think that way is a bigger chance to get doubles. Chat Icon

Re: Yay or Nay: Wish lists?

I made a wish list for DS's 1st birthday. I only gave it to people who asked. He ended up getting everything he wished for.

I feel the same way as you...when I am buying I wish people had one...but now that I have been considering it for dd's b-day I don't know how it will be received by others.

i really like the idea - because my friend uses it to let us all know the things her kids REALLY want.

i will say WHY i like it is because she gives things of ALL price points. So if i'm in a good place monetraily and can spend 50 bucks each...i know i'll get them something they LOVE....but if i'm not - i can spend 20 bucks each and STILL get them something they LOVE... ya know?

i'd much rather know full well i can get them: a, b or c.....then have to try and figure out what she doesn't already have, what the boys are 'over' playing with...or what someone else may have gotten them already....

Re: Yay or Nay: Wish lists?

I don't think it's tacky - I wouldn't advertise it, just show it to people who ask what they should get her, that's all!

Re: Yay or Nay: Wish lists?

I do it for DD's birthday and update for Christmas every year....

I always tell people who ask "what can I get her?" that I have a wishlist on Amazon and that they do NOT have to buy on Amazon, but they can use it as a guide / suggestion box.

Most people are grateful to have something to look at that shows them ideas for things DD would really want / need.

Re: Yay or Nay: Wish lists?

I was going to say I wouldn't do it (I didn't do it for her birthday, which is tomorrow)... but for Christmas I think it's actually a good idea. I can see a lot of family members asking what to get her and I could just send them a link.

Amazon has this? My mom loves shopping on amazon! Chat Icon

I think they're a good idea for close family members or friends who are going to buy gifts anyway.

Re: Yay or Nay: Wish lists?

I like the idea. I wish everyone would do that. But I would definitely put low priced items on there just to be sure you cover everyone and their budgets.

Of course I would follow all rules of registry etiquette but I am happy to hear it's not really considered tabboo or tacky. I'm doing it! Chat Icon

I have one done for Eddie. I am not telling anyone about it, it is not going on the invite. If someone asks, that when I tell them about it.

Re: Yay or Nay: Wish lists?

I think it is ok if you put things on there that are reasonable, and only give it to those who ask.

I say this bc my lunatic SIL sent us an invitation to her daughter's 1st b-day party (when we were not even speaking to said SIL) and had a Nintendo DS, some movies, a small tv and some gold earrings on her 'wish list'. I was like, um, who's wish list is this?Chat Icon Chat Icon

That's a good idea. IMO I think it's kinda pushy to just send it in the invite...

I've never used one or know anyone that has used one, but I think it's a great idea especially for people who have no clue what to get. I would definitely use it to buy gifts for someone.

Re: Yay or Nay: Wish lists?

I actually never even thought of it until recently, and it think it's a very good idea. Recently, I added a bunch of things to my amazon cart so I don't forget when it comes time to buy. People do tend to ask what to get, and I never know what to say. I told my aunts I did this, and they said please tell us--we never know what to get. So, I guess my vote would be to make a wish list, and don't put it on an invite or anything, but when people ask (and you know some will and some won't), you can say- I made a wish list let me see--and either read them some items, or forward them the wish list.

Re: Yay or Nay: Wish lists?

I haven't done it (yet!) but I think it's a great idea. I never like to buy other kids toys or even clothes bc I don't know if what I'm buying is mom's style or something they already have. So I think a wishlist would be great as a guest.
