entertainment or not, this is a hurtful thing to say about an ENTIRE community. A very large commuity. I think the imus thing was also hurtful but I'm sure hit harder for certain people rather than others just like this does. These incidences are personal attacks on people where a lot don't deserve it. I don't think you can say that one is worse than the other. It just depends on who it is directed to. I can get offended by something that someone else thinks is perfectly fine. It's not fair for others to make any opinions on what should offend me and what shouldn't. If it is purely "just for entertainment" than he could at least fess up to the fact that he does it for entertainment but instead he is choosing to alienate a LARGE part of his listening audience. I don't feel strongly one way or another about the firing or suspension because I could care less but I for one am so sick of hearing about how people feel about this community. We get it.
PS - i don't live there but grew up there and my family is still there and so I take it a little personally because they are hard-working middle class people who have lived there forever. And I get upset when people call them white trash because they're not. Nor are they sex offenders. But let's get real, I'm probably not going to let some comments by a DJ get to me that much. I don't listen to the station anyway because I'm in Jersey.

Why should one be considered worse? Imus put down a football team - Randy put down an entire community - with the trailer park and white trash with no teeth comment. They are both despicable.

she DOES alot for our commuinty. she is very active in everything.

I agree except I don't think he should be forced to apologize if he feels he did nothing wrong.
He has every right to think and say what he wants as it's his freedom of speech. If people don't like it, they should stop listening.
This is just a form of censorship that has become more commonplace and that makes me nervous.
I agree 100%...it's called freedom of speech.....if you don't agree with him, don't listen to his show. I do not understand whay he would get fired for that

IDK -- i don't really let entertainment personalities and their comments bother me. sometimes i think people get "offended" so freaking fast these days---its overkill. big freaking deal. i also think the word "offended" is entirely overused in our society nowadays. it was a stupid joke and everyone getting up in arms about it is doing nothing but fueling a fire. its silly. gotta just learn to brush it off and get over it

honestly---who FREAKING CARES!?!?! everyone is all about beating into someone's brain why they are being offensive! so what if he doesn't think what he said is offensive!? do you honestly think you saying "i'm so offended" by his statement is gonna make him magically say "oh wow i should completely change my thought process here" NO it won't. and FORCING him to apologize is ridiclious---wow they say "apologize or you don't get your job back" yeah he'll apologize -- for the job and that's it. he won't be sincere and he won't mean it and nothing will change.
so trying to get him to "see the light" isn't going to work.
by getting worked up over what ONE person said in a generalization--you are just giving them validation...hence why i say...get over it.
maybe i'm used to generalizations--being hispanic--and i have heard them all. hell--i've had someone SPIT IN MY FACE and tell me to "go back where i came from" (i was born here thank you) with my 5 yr. old niece with me.....THAT is cause for offense. when one loser on a radio station makes a stupid comment that probably thousands of people make all the time (since the station received so many people calling and agreeing)---why let it fan the flames?? its not gonna change what this guy says or what many others say anyway. generalizations happen to everyone---rich, poor, black, white, male, female---its the point of letting it GET to you that makes the difference.

I haven't lived in LI for many years.... but I recall that Mastic had a certain "rep" not far off from what this DJ said.... SO, it's not like he decided to dream this stuff up- the thought process came from somewhere.
I recently moved from an area here in Maryland that is "affectionately" know as Hazzard County (redneck reference). Was everyone there a redneck? NO. There were some very nice areas/people there (including myself
 ) In fact, most people there had all their teeth. They did love their pick-ups though. What was interesting though is that those who lived in the area EMBRACED it- we laughed about it. In fact, I can recall many Baltimre City DJ's would turn on the hick accent whenever anyone from our "county" would call in.
Are those of you who are offended plssed that there is this stigma attached to the Mastic area, or because someone decided to voice it over the airways?

Regardless of wheter it was offense or not, he has a right to say what he wants. No one should be censored because another group doesn't like what that one is saying hence the development of the 1st amendment.
If you don't like what he says, don't listen to the radio station or withdraw your support of their sponsors. To censor a person for their opinion is treading on dangerous ground.

maybe my issue is when i hear everyone throwing the "i'm offended & hurt" stuff around. it just seems a bit dramatic to throw that terminology around about a guy that probably most people who are claiming to be offended didn't even hear him say it in the first place and probably only found out about it thru news stories and such. (not specifying you--just in general)
lets be real here--long island is a diverse area and there's no denying that certain areas have a "stigma" attached to them....be it good or bad. sometimes i think when you live in these areas you just have to take the good with the bad and let the stigma roll off your back.

Actually, Dana said it this morning on the show.
I am actually over it - I do take it from where its coming -
it makes no difference to me whether they let him back on the show or not - I just said I wouldn't care if he got fired cuz he is just sooooo annoying with that whiney voice!!!

i really do agree - there really is nothing I can do about what others think - It just annoys me - and there is no denying the stigma attached to our town what with the recent events that have gone on there.
