Re: WARNING...Highly upsetting news article in post

What about the father? He moved out a week ago. Does anyone think he moved out because she was going crazy. If so, why on earth did he leave his child with her.

If I had any questions about someone's sanity I damn skippy would not leave a child in their care, let alone a newborn.

It is horrific!

But unless you know the circumstances, it's hard to understand how someone could EVER do something like that.

I knew 2 women with severe PPD.

One wanted to kill her child (I won't describe what she wanted to do to her child!). She luckily never did. She asked for help and recovered from PPD. She felt so guilty 10 years later that she let's her daughter do whatever she wants. We thought she was just a spoil little brat and when we talked to her mom she made the confession. I was in shock! You cannot imagine how guilty this woman felt just for wanted to kill her daughter. She said her daughter's cries turned out into an insane woman who could only think of shutting the baby up.

The wife of my father's cousin. Killed her 3 yo adorable little boy. She had PDD after giving birth to a little brother who was 6 weeks old. She had a history of depression. It was VERY horrific. IT STILL HUNT ME 20 years later! She is in a mental institution. Will never go out. She completely lost it. She will most likely never recover enough to understand what she did. She will never be eligible to see her other daughter and other boy. You will think she deserves to die. Of course, but she does not even know. She is "gone".

I totally agree. I know of two similar situations as well.

I am not saying it is right what was done, but you never really know the situation. Chat Icon

Re: WARNING...Highly upsetting news article in post

Dear God how horrible!!!!!

There is a big difference between this animal and what Andrea Yates did to her children. This woman mutalated and tortured a 3 week old. Of course she wont get the death penalty because of her impared mental state, but she should be locked up in an institution for the rest of her life because she is a threat to society.

May that poor baby rest in peaceChat Icon

Now i think if you suffer from a normal PPD that is normal and can be managed but if you have pre-existing physiological disorders you shouldn't be keeping any child.

I will not read this article, but have to say... Wow to this....

I guess I should have my daughter taken away from me then....

Do you have any understanding at all of PPD? What is "Normal" PPD?

Re: WARNING...Highly upsetting news article in post

If you have severe depression leading up to having a child studies conclude you are more likely to harm your child.

If you just have a case of it with no signs of depression prior you can be treated and everything can go smoothly.

Edited part: I am not saying you particularly should have your child taken away but if you have been treated for violence to yourself and/or others in the past, have a massive history of depression and show signs of pmd i think maybe it is in the best interest not to have unsupervised interactions with the child.

As much as I would like to see this psycho suffer for what she did to that little boy, the end result will never be achieved. She'll never grasp the magnitude of what she's done. Needle in the arm will take care of it. Over and out..

and I have to say, I agree with some of what Nifheim (sp?) is saying.

I don't understand why this woman was left for even a MINUTE alone with her child.

having PPD is one thing. having been previously a visitor of a psychiatric hospital is another.

this woman should have been watched VIGILANTLY and perhaps readmitted to the pysch hospital for treatment before being allowed to care for her child.

I am not saying that people that suffer from psychological disorders should not be able to parent...AT ALL.

but we are all aware that there are different kinds of mental health illnesses out there, and some are far worse than others.

this child owe's it's horrific death not only to his mother who perpetrated it, but also to those closest to her and her doctors. it is the HEIGHT of irresponsibility on ALL of their parts to allow her continued, unsupervised access.

I am just crushed by this. and the idea that it could happen again b/c we don't treat PPD and mental illness as seriously as we should. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Oh dear. I have just read the article.

I retract what I posted before about not knowing the circumstances. This is serial killer behaviour. This is far different from the woman who drowned her children. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Is anyone else Chat Icon about her sister and her sister's children being in the house as well?

I don't understand why this woman was left alone with this child. I would think she was presenting at some point where a "normal" person would assume she needed help.
