Uber question

Do you cash tip your driver? My job told us cash tip not needed as all fees are I included but after a conversation with my brother he made it sound like I was the devil for not tipping. I Googled and it lIke the driver gets 80% of the fare and uber gets 20%

Re: Uber question

No I've never cash tipped. I thought the whole point of Uber was to take cash out of the equation which makes it safer for all parties involved?

Re: Uber question

I asked a driver about this and he said no cash at all.
Everything is included and they aren't supposed to take cash

Uber question

It depends on where you are. Here is Austin, all the Uber drivers seem quite happy to take cash tips. When I took a few rides in Bridgeport, not a single one would accept a tip.

Uber question

I've actually read that you are supposed to tip Uber drivers but that doesn't mean I do every time. When I get a good driver, I always tip in cash though.

I've never once had the driver decline the money.

It is! No cash should be given to the driver.

From Uber's website:
Tap a button, get a ride

No cash, no tip, no hassle

You rate, we listen

Choose your ride and set your location. You’ll see your driver’s picture and vehicle details, and can track their arrival on the map.

When you arrive at your destination, just hop out—we’ll automatically charge the credit card on file. And there’s no need to tip.

Rate your driver and provide anonymous feedback about your trip. Your input helps us make every ride a 5-star experience.

Re: Uber question

This reminds me of the people who bring gifts to a party where the host SPECIFICALLY asks for no gifts.
Then others feel bad that thye didn't bring a gift.
So everyone brings gifts.
And now the party that was supposed to be "your presence not your presents" is suddenly a regular old gifty party.

Same with Uber.

You aren't supposed to tip. They aren't supposed to accept it. That's the whole point. No cash.
It's safer for them. It's safer for you.
It's the whole point of the business model.

Stop tipping your Uber drivers please!!
You are ruining it.

Re: Uber question

i actually emailed Uber about it when we used it in CHicago this weekend. they said the fare is the fare and tips are not necessary. I guess its either worked into the fare or the driver is keeping most of the fare to begin with.

Re: Uber question

Well dang! Here are some of the articles that suggest tipping! I just know that all my friends in the city DO tip Uber drivers so I've been doing it.

Re: Uber question

I know this is old.

But I took my 1st Uber this morning.

I asked the driver if the tip was included because I remembered this post saying it was. And I asked a friend who took a separate Uber and he said it isn't but it can be added to the card.
The driver said the tip wasn't included.

I'm so confused. LOL

ETS: OK based on the articles above, I will tip.
It seems there wasn't technically a tip included. The drivers were just making better money.

While Uber’s official policy says you’re not required to tip your drivers

Earlier this year, Uber released some stats detailing how its drivers make considerably more than their taxi counterparts. Hence, no need for tips. But many drivers contend they don’t even clear minimum wage, particularly since Uber slashed rates in January.

But with fares being lowered, Uber drivers are taking a hit—at a recent protest, driver Dwayne Andrews explained, “It was good at the beginning, there was a base fare, not as many drivers. You were able to make a living and truly work at your own time. But now you have to do more trips for less money and every month they're putting out more and more drivers, further diluting the market. And now they’re dropping the prices?"

They just need an option in the app to tip after the ride so you don't need to carry cash.

Uber question

I am in LA now and NO TIPS. All the times I have used Uber/Lyft in LA, SF, Boston and NY there has never been tipping. I actually know uber drivers in NY and Charlotte and they say no tipping. Of course they will take a cash tip....why wouldn't they but everything is inluded in the fare.

Re: Uber question

I thought no tipping as well. I honestly wouldn't feel safe with a lot of cash bc it means the drivers could get robbed if they know they carry a lot of cash on them. JMO. Same with Costco. They never take cash. LOL! I know it's a different comparison though. I've only used Uber twice and didn't tip. The driver said no and we gave them a good rating.

Re: Uber question

And I thought the whole point of Uber was a CASHLESS transaction. Safer for the driver, safer for the passengers.
I rarely ever carry cash. Even in a NYC cab, you pay with credit card and can put the tip right on there.
I don't see an option for a tip when I order an Uber.
I don't get it

They don't have the option for it yet. Drivers are rallying to get that changed because they aren't making the money they did before. More fees. Cutting fares. And more drivers. Is really cutting into their profit.

Technically you don't have to tip.

Yeah but I feel like a jerk if I am "supposed" to tip and don't. Ugh.
I would like if they would get the option on the app like they are rallying for. Would make it easy to tip and I'd feel better

Uber question

I've only tipped going from the airport in Orlando (I was at a conference).

There were signs all over the car about how tips weren't included and tipping is nice, etc...

My father in law didn't realize it was cashless once so he gave the driver the whole fare plus tip and the driver didn't say anything!!!
