Re: Uber question
The included tip amount is not a lot. This comes from a friend of mine whose husband drives for Uber. Tips are always appreciated.

Re: Uber question
Interesting conversation . . . I always though you weren't supposed to tip (based off of what Uber drivers told me).

Uber question
I really wish that you could add a tip amount when you order...it's insane that you can't, it negates the whole point of it being cashless! Every Uber driver I've encountered has happily accepted( and expected) a tip.

Re: Uber question
I feel like cash tipping goes against everything UBER is about (or initially was about) It's supposed to be a "get in, get out" thing. No cash exchanged. Easy peasy. And super convenient as someone who RARELY ever has cash on her. I don't want to have to worry about going to the bank really quick to get cash for my UBER tip. And I could swear that when I set up my account online, there was an option for tipping (you could pick a percentage) and they would just add it on to your fare. I have to check that.
ETA: I copied & pasted this from their website. It's under "payments". And you just pick a percentage to tip. Goes up to 35%.
"Your preferred gratuity will be applied to any future TAXI trips that you request through Uber. This will apply to TAXI fares only (not Black, SUV, or uberX) and be paid to your driver. Gratuity only applies in certain countries."

Right...but the uberTaxi is different from the other cars and the tipping option isn't available through the app for the other cars. Something the drivers are trying to get changed.
No need to try to hail a cab from the curb. Request a local cab from your phone with uberTAXI.
From their website:
Do I need to tip? The Uber app cannot include a tip when billing you for a trip fare. Where available as a vehicle option, uberTAXI is an exception. uberTAXI connects riders with licensed yellow cabs, and includes the option to set a gratuity percentage added to your trip fare. In most cities, Uber is a cashless experience. Tipping is voluntary. Tips are not included in the fare, nor are they expected or required. As a rider, you are not obligated to offer your driver a gratuity in cash. If you decide you would like to tip, your driver is welcome to accept.

Well technically you don't have to as per the info above from their website. I guess if you want to give something extra it's fine. The drivers are looking to change things though. Since they have more competition (with more drivers and other companies) Uber is cutting fare prices and drivers are getting hit with more fees (not sure what they are). So the drivers aren't making as much as they did when Uber first came out. So they want to add a tip option to the app. I guess as something extra.
I don't really like that idea since the drivers can also rate you. And you know they will take that into consideration when they do.
But Lyft does have the option and doesn't seem to be an issue.
I think Uber needs to reexamine how they do things. Just to make it more clear to passengers and fair to drivers.
I will probably just stick to cabs

Re: Uber question
a friend of mine started driving for uber in florida. Id tip honestly.
He worked 8 hours, he earned $79, he then has to deduct the cost of gas that he used, plus wear and tear on his car and insurance. It's definitely under minimum wage.

Re: Uber question
http://money.cnn.com/2017/06/20/technology/business/uber-adds-tipping/index.html
On Tuesday, the company said it will introduce tipping for drivers, something the company has strongly objected to in the past. ... On Tuesday, Uber launched a campaign called "180 Days of Change," pledging to make improvements for the next six months. The first set of changes had to do with driver earnings, and at the top of that list was the option for tipping. It will roll out on Tuesday in Seattle, Minneapolis and Houston and expected to expand to all U.S. cities by the end of July. While Lyft has supported tipping since its early days, Uber has repeatedly refused to include this option, citing a "hassle-free" experience that's better for drivers and riders. ...
