Those with finished basements
If you don't have CAC, how do you keep it cool? We are just about finished and ready to use the basement that DH has been working on for weeks. It normally stays cool on its own but when its REALLY warm out, it can be a little uncomfortable down there. What do you do?

Our finished basement is the coolest spot in the house. We don't have CAC but even on the hot days it is cool.

I don't have a finished basement, but that area is the coolest of all places in a house.
My parents have a semi-finished basement - they use a dehumidifier to keep it cool.

Maybe try a dehumidifier if it feels sticky??

Dehumidifier or one of those portable AC units if it gets really bad down there.

Our basement is always so cool! I use fans when i am exercising down there, but otherwise we use nothing.

DH loves the basement because its cool. We have a dehumidifier & he has a small table fan he sometimes uses down there.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I think the reason it is warm down there is because DH has the windows open to ventilate it. I always remember it being colder before it was finished so I am sure it will be cool enough once its done. I am only worried because we have out of town friends staying down there and I don't want them to be too warm.

DH and I live in a finished basement. During the day when we are at work run the dehumidifier. When we get home, we turn the AC on. In the summer, we take out the basement window in the living room and have it in there. It works like a charm.

yea, at my parents house the basement was always the coolest place on hot days without CAC going.

We have a finished basement with CAC and we close the vents during the summer (our hear comes from the same vents) because it gets too cold downstairs. It is practically unbearable.
I have a dehumidifier running all the time. It makes a huge difference in my opinion.
