no, it's not a common sense thing if other places allow it. like someone said, in suffolk county it's not against the law. so I simply was not AWARE that it's against the law. that's completely different than KNOWING and still going in.
please SHOW me where you think there is a suffolk law that its okay? as you obviously seem to THINK you know this for a fact. can you give me the information where you believe it? or is it something that you just ASSumed?
obviously by these postings and health code info--its NOT legal. so i don't know where you got your info
now you know---it IS against the law. so can i assume you are too cool to follow it and still bring your dog into the supermarket when you run out of food? i bet you will.

The other places that allow it though have signs saying DOGS ARE WELCOME HERE!! They are the exception not the rule. You seriously should not need a sign to tell you not to bring your dog into a supermarket. I only went in to grab milk I don't need to go home with fleas too.

I don't think you and the person who posted about suffolk county understand how state and local laws interrelate. NY State Health regulations are statewide and cannot be trumped by local (county, town, etc.) laws and regulations. A county or town regulation can be STRICTER, but it cannot trump state law.
The other poster only knew that someone at Suffolk County's health department stated that Suffolk County itself doesn't have any regulation about dogs in stores. That doesn't mean that state or federal laws couldn't exist that are just as much in effect in Suffolk County as elsewhere. If there is a NY STATE health regulation about dogs in stores that sell food, then it applies in ALL counties and towns, REGARDLESS of whethe the county or town has a local rule.

you act so condescending yet I don't believe you're any better than me or anyone else. get over yourself.
Like I said last night, I wasn't lazy, I had no choice. I couldn't go home otherwise the store would've closed. It didn't bother anyone
OK, just have to add my 2 cents here. I didn't see the thread last night, so I don't know what you were going into the store for. But you say you had no choice. You absolutely had a choice. You could have chosen to take your dog home and not bring him/her into a food establishment. The choice you made was that it was more important to you to bring your dog in with you rather than risk not being able to get to the store.
You also say that it didn't bother anyone... but do you really know that? I know that there are times when I see things that bug me to no end, I just don't speak up to say anything. I guess we should just realize that the law says no animals in places where there is food and if you choose to bring an animal in, you run the risk of getting fined or kicked out.

Dear Kim and Ron,
If this thread turns nasty, please consider just deleting the nasty parts & keep the valuable information on a locked thread (instead of deleting the whole thing).
I know many of us would like to be able to reference this thread in the future WHEN this topic comes up for discussion next quarter/week/month/etc.
Thank you!

It's nice having you around Kara!!
Kara have you ever brought your horse into a store? Did they have signs saying no horses allowed? Do you know what the law is about horses?

NOT CORRECT.
Suffolk County does NOT allow animals either; see Kara's explanation plus Barbara's post with the Suffolk County Code.

you know what? that official info probably will NOT stop the posters who say they bring their dogs into stores with them at all---something tells me they will say "well thats great but i don't see it as a problem because MY DOG is very clean and will not touch a cart cause i hold them in my arm/carrier/bag"
you're unbelievable. the "posters" that did bring their dogs into the stores have not gone into stores that had signs that said "no pets allowed" there are plenty of places nowadays that let your dogs in it. especially in the city. but whatever. think that we're "inconsiderate" and have no "common sense"
whats unbelievable is someone saying "well they don't have a sign that says its NOT okay" that's the rationality that a 6 year old says when they are caught doing something wrong "well no one TOLD me i couldn't"
like others said--its common sense. bringing your dog into the supermarket just cause you're too lazy to go home and drop them off and come back (god forbid you have to prioritize)---shows your lack of common sense. you say 'well they don't have sign" big effing deal.
so i guess cause theres no sign saying your dog can't crap on the floor---thats okay too

you act so condescending yet I don't believe you're any better than me or anyone else. get over yourself.
Like I said last night, I wasn't lazy, I had no choice. I couldn't go home otherwise the store would've closed. It didn't bother anyone
But it WAS against the LAW. AND you could have left the dog in the car. OR you could have gone home and feed your dog the dry food you had and gone out FIRST thing in the morning and bought the food your dog does eat.
There are ALWAYS choices.
