Re: The Topic to End all Spinoffs

I think what is happening in this post it is really the same scenario but with two different reasons why animals are in food establishments.

First I would like to say that cats that are used in food establishments are called mousers. I also want to clarify this does not mean they are not fed and only have a mouse as a food source. They are well fed and have litter boxes.

The reason there are cats as I mentioned in an earlier post is because they keep rats out when the businesses are closed. There are many animal advocates/rescue organizations in favor of making this law and that one day may come to be.

Now there is the situation where people bring their pets to stores and walk through stores with pets. If it is not PETCO or Peltand Discounts or anything related to pet products etc. I would not bring my pet. Pets can have accidents and some are not friendly. I hope this can clear up perhaps some confusion. Unfortunately for NYC animals, tens of thousands are put to death in our municipal shelter and many, many came from LI, specifically North Shore Animal League America. As NYC rescue we welcome a law to allow cats in bodegas as we will kill less each year some of which originated from LI. I know we all care about our pets or we would not be posting trying to help each other and also seeking advice. Hopefully we can all agree to disagreeChat Icon

ok, so we get it..... its the law.

like i said, i rarely bring my animals with me anymore.... BUT if i am out and i need a drink I do go into a pet friendly bodega to get one.
that MAY be against the law, BUT as long as the store allows/welcomes it, i will continue.
and to be honest, store around me always will allow it. its different. we cant just pop in and leave our dog in the car. we cant leave our dog in the yard. when you live in the city, you walk your dogs constantly... if i get parched, im goign to buy myself a drink.

i realize this may be technically illegal, BUT as i have said, if the store allows it and welcomes it, then i will continue to do so.

Interesting response...considering you tend to shove your beliefs down the throat of others.. I guess it stinks to have someone tell you what you should do in your life doesn't it. Chat Icon

i am not shoving my beliefs on anyone. i am simply stating i recognize the law, but if it is welcomed, i will continue. its my perogative. get over yourself.

Why don't you bring a reusable bottle of water with you when you walk the dogs? That way you won't have to pop in for a drink. And you will be helping the environment by not buying bottles of water.

That's a fantastic idea!

if you guys think thats a great idea, take your own advice.

So you know you are breaking the Law and you respect stores that break the Law.

Wow... just wow! It's good to be you and feel you don't have to follow the rules. As long as someone else does not follow them and allows you not to follow them, it's all good, right?

Very interesting state of mind.

What, whats wrong with this idea? Do you have an actual reason for not being able to do this?

everyone breaks the law.

if this is the worst "crime" i commit, so be it.

i dont take my dogs into supermarkets..... i dont think that is the place for them.

but i DO take them into a bodega when i'm out and need to pop in for a bottle of water or whathaveyou.
most bodega owners/workers love it. its never a problem--- t least in Williasmburg. its very laid back here. manhattan too, but depends. some places have a NO PETS sign. which i always respect.

besides, almost EVERY bodega i have encountered owns a cat.

You're missing the point. You have NO RIGHT to do this, by LAW. WHY? Why do you feel like you DO when you DON'T?

THAT'S what BAFFLES me.

there are MILLIONS of laws. i'm sure YOU don't abide by EVERY one either.

why dont you just get off of your soapbox already?

i rarely bring my animals with me anymore, and i ONLY bring them to stores that WELCOME it.

if a store WELCOMES it i dont care what the law says. i have bar owners, bodega owners TELL ME to bring the dogs next time. JuST LAST NIGHT actually! so... if they dont care, i dont care.
not for nothing, its been said over and over again... but LI and teh city are very different when it comes to this subject. i have lived in both. i wouldnt dream of bringing my animal with me to a deli on LI, but in brooklyn, well, i wouldnt think twice. and what do you think im doing? hanging around shopping??? no way. i pick my dog up, run inside, grab the water or whatever it is i need (usually just a quick drink) and i get out of tehre. i dont hang out. not that i have to explain myself to you.

and btw, i resent your paris hilton comment. coulnt be further form the truth. i cant stand her and the way she is with her animals. what she does and how she carries herself has NOTHING to do with me. there is NO comparison.

what i dont get is how YOU think YOU can be judgemental and sit there on your soapbox pointing fingers. Are YOU the person entrusted to carryout this law? Ummmmmm im guessing youre NOT.
so, seriously, worry about yourself.

jes, the point is that it's against the law - and for good reason!! it's a health issue and some people are allergic. end of story. what the bodega owners say SHOULD NOT MATTER.

why are you okay with breaking a law that could put other people's health in danger? Chat Icon

Re: The Topic to End all Spinoffs

OMG why is this going so sour? The OP posted the law. She stated it was to post the law, not to discuss our feelings on it. There have been 4,524,594,870,248,760 other threads about how we all feel about it. Can't we just leave it be so the info is here the next time it comes up in 2 weeks, rather than have it pulled?

i def am not disagreeing with you that this is a good idea, its just alittle not always as easy as that. since i pretty much walk everywhere, sometimes you dont realize how long you will be out, how hot it is outside, etc.... plus, not that it matters, i have a very very strange pet peeve, i HATE walking around with drink bottles, cans, glass, etc. (this is true, ask dh, i'm weird about it)
obviously, if it is sorching out and i am out with a dog i bring a water, its just easier said than done on ALWAYS bagging on that

but again, i really dont have to explain myself to anyone on here

Listen, this will be the last thing i will say about the issue because Lord knows I could go on and on with you because I am bored right now...my comments to you were based on the fact that you are not the only one who feels strongly about what they believe in and it was interesting to see your response to others who were passionate about theirs. Try not to be so lopsided in your thinking, it may actually benefit you in some way.

i respect other peoples' opinions. you just ALWAYS assume i am on the offense. Maybe YOU should open up your mind some and see I am not actually the way you percieve me.
I understand people feel strongly about this and they are entitled to.
Just because I disagree with some things means just that, I disagree. I am most definatly NOT telling people to bring their dogs into stores with them, I would NEVER.... I am simply stating the fact that it is welcomed very commonly here in my town and so if they owners allow it, then I think that is great and if I NEED to run into a store with one, I will. To me, its really not that big of a deal, to others it is. I respect that. I think you feel I am trying to march against everyone, you NEVER EVER give me the benefit of the doubt EVER. Whenever I see you respond to something of mine I KNOW what to expect form you.
Again, I am not knocking everyone, I am just telling people MY point of view on it, am I not entitled to an opinion? I think I am, so I voice it. Just like you voice yours. We dont have to agree on everything, what a boring world that would be. I think I have been very chill about this and I have remained calm and respectful to others. Although I feel you have NOT been completely respectful, theres nothing I can do about it, its youre MO i guess.

Clearly she was suggesting you smoke crack, Jess. I'm pretty sure she used it as an extreme example to make a point.

PLEASE... I'm asking everyone NICELY, please let this thread die so if need be we can refer to it at a later date if someone has a question about the law.

This WAS the only reason I posted it and unfortunately it is sprialing out of control.

Whatever Jess. If you're trying to avoid drama, why are you perpetuating it on this thread by accusing Flatbread of accusing you of smoking crack?? You know damn well she didn't yet you're arguing the point. But you're not looking to start drama... RIGHT.

As for posting hearsay? No. I posted fact. I spoke to a Board of Health Offical. Additionally, if you had actually read the ENTIRE thread the law WAS INDEED posted.

Now PLEASE... LEAVE this thread ALONE.

That's exactly what Jennie did. Except the original drama thread was then pulled.

Jennie posted the law on a separate thread (this one) so it could be referenced later. That was the original intent of this thread.
