Comment on your update.

This person already got a free meal. They want free meals for the rest of the week.

Nevermind being tacky - this person is an idiot.

Re: Tacky Or Not - Poll ***UPDATED WITH a TID BIT***

Way beyond tacky. I don't think people like this will ever get it though and I've always opted to keep the peace even though it was distasteful.

There was one person in my family who would DEMAND leftovers. Get into arguments about it. When we ate at her house, she would argue about giving them out to anyone. Said they would feed her own family for a week so she's not offering.

It was just one one of the many things in her selfish, witchy way. We don't spend holidays with her anymore. I am now offered leftovers and don't have to feel guilty about taking them.

I do that if we're going to my mom's house. Most of the time, they're her leftover containers from a previous visit anyway (What can I say, we're Italian - she would get insulted if DH and I didn't take leftovers).

However, this is a NO GO at anyone else's house. Never, ever would I do this.

I was the host this year, and my aunt showed up with a huge pile of tupperware. She had also cooked a bunch and our family always has waaaay too much food. So I thought it made sense, and I was glad I didn't have to come up with containers for everyone to go home with. With that being said, if anyone complained that there weren't enough leftovers I'd be MAD!

I think if it is discussed beforehand, if this is understood, or tradition, then fine.

If NOT discussed, then tacky

**Update: I ask because after this had occurred, I received an e-mail from the Tupperware Bringer and they complained that there were no leftovers and called it "ridiculous." (I was not the host).

Totally depends on the fam member. I would do it going to my parents. Heck, I shop in their fridge all the time and take things home. My IL's too.

Now, for pple that I'm not close with. Cousins we see a few times a year... then it's odd.

THEY COMPLAINED THAT THERE WERE NO LEFT OVERS????

TACKY TACKY TACKY TACKY TACKY!!! I wouldn't even want to invite this free loader to any of my dinners ever again. They are just looking for a handout.

It's one thing if you are a VERY close relative, or if you helped pay for the food or brought it.... but to not consititute as any of that... TACKY. sorry.

And even under those circumstances, I still wouldn't bring a bunch of my own containers for someone else's left overs.

WOW, just WOW!!!!

In this case... I think it's perfectly fine.
You always have leftovers, and she brought a bunch of food.... I see no problem with this situation at all. And it's almost thoughtful in the sense that she brought the containers... because otherwise you would lose all your tupperware doling out the left overs.

Tacky IF the host didn't say to do it!

My sister always tells us to bring our own containers to take food home.
I have bought glad ware so that my guests could bring food home.

But to ASSUME you're bringing food home? Chat Icon

ITA. That's a different situation.

I think the situation the OP mentioned is equivalent to someone invited to a BBQ party by friends. Someone shows up with a bunch of containers out of the blue and ask to get leftover burgers, macaroni salad and EXPECTING to get the leftovers but

1/ the guest did not bring any food to the party
2/ the host never mentioned offering left over (even if she will later but that's HER call!!!)
2/ EXPECTING left overs and finding it "ridiculous" that they could not bring burgers home.

Re: Tacky Or Not - Poll ***UPDATED WITH a TID BIT***

I like the idea if it is planned ahead of time and more than 1 person is participating. And I like it if everyone is contributing dishes. Otherwise it is odd. Like I wouldn't show up at a friends house empty handed with tupperware only - kwim?

For the record, I usually buy those plastic or styrofoam "take away" containers for people who want leftovers.

Re: Tacky Or Not - Poll ***UPDATED WITH a TID BIT***

I voted that it kinda makes sense.... There have been so many times where I had to use my own Tupperware to send people home with leftovers and never got my Tupperware back. This is actually a pretty smart idea. Everyone can take home some leftovers in there own containers. I suppose it can be a little tacky but IMO I think its smart.

Re: Tacky Or Not - Poll ***UPDATED WITH a TID BIT***

But what happens if there is a Venti amount of leftovers but the person only brought a Grande sized tupperware? Would it be tacky to ask to borrow one extra piece of Tall tupperware to fit the rest? Now THAT is the question!!!
