True. However, I cannot control what goes on on the schoolbus. I have a 1st grader, and its scary. I CAN control what I choose to expose my children to in my own home.

That being said, anyone watch Oswald???? Hello sexual inuendo! "Its big banana day! Lets all share the big banana"

Chat Icon

Its amazing what passes as "appropriate" for children.

I actually LOVE SpongeBob but for "me". This is NOT a young child appropriate cartoon.

I think SpongeBob is hilarious! But again for a teenager or adult.

These are my thoughts exactly. Just because he's a cartoon does not mean it's appropriate for young kids.

I can't stand Spongebob. I don't mind if DS watches it, but he asks me to turn it off everytime and says, "No Spongebob!" Chat Icon

DS loves Spongebob. Look at what we grew up with.. Looney Tunes. All of them killing each other, using guns, throwing each other off cliffs, anvils, etc.

I think those comments on Spongebob that people have mentioned on here on not made often at all, we watch it everyday. DS wouldn't even get it. I have never heard anything that made me goChat Icon honestly on Spongebob.

Re: Spongebob . . .

Having not watched much sponge bob, I'm not sure of it's appropriateness or not for a young child/toddler.

With that said, I got turned off when SB partnered up with Burger King and placed "square sponges" in slutty girls shorts on their tushies as they danced around like stippers at a club - I'm not sure what Madison Avenue was trying to accomplish there. To me, kids are a bit over-exposed to these things too early. I get that at school there is less control, but I am a bit of a prude I suppose myself. These things definitely concern me.

Can't stand SpongeBob. I will never put it on here and if my DDs wanted to watch it I'd say, "Nope, sorry!" I remember when my older one was like 18 mos. she'd see a picture of SpongeBob or whatever and say, "Bad show." Ha...did I teach her or what? I'm a little nuts though...aside from the couple of Disney movies we have, I will not put anything on for the girls except for educational stuff--most often Nick Jr.

BTW, how are you Kelly?! Haven't seen you on here in forever. Hope you and Bella are well!!! Chat Icon

Am I the only one that really dislikes Spongebob?

Bella is recently transitioning her programming as she gets a bit older (oh, how I wish it could be a Dora World forever)

And Spongebob is a real problem for me. I don't like it one bit.

Case in point, the other day Spongebob was mopping the floors and didn't have any shoes on and Mr.Crab said something to the effect...

"What's going on Spongebob? Don't tell me you went all Section 8 on me"Chat Icon Chat Icon
I almost fell on the floor.

Everyone in my family and DH make fun of me for taking it too seriously, but I don't think I am....

I can't stand Spongebob. That show is banned in my house and my Mom's. She hastes it even more. My son is only 3 months old but I will never let him watch it in my house. Even the kids I used to watch I wouldn't let them watch it.

Re: Spongebob . . .

DD just watched it for the first time the other day (my friend has older kids and they had it on when we were staying with them).

I didn't like and we won't have it on in our house-they use words like "stupid" and there were some scenes that I thought were too scary for a toddler.

I'm pretty relaxed-if it is on at someone else's house, so be it, but I'll keep it off in ours.

Re: Spongebob . . .

I LOATHE Sponge Bob, however, my husband has allowed my daughter to watch it, and that was a parenting decision he made. So now, he MUST sit in the room with her at all times that she is watching it and explain how incredibly inappropriate it is. I've gotten over it, but I still hate that show. I don't agree that he allows her to watch it, but whatever, he's her parent, too, and it's not a battle I feel is worth fighting.

Re: Spongebob . . .

I love Spongebob. So much so that I'm wearing SB pajamas as we speak. Chat Icon Yes, I have several pairs of SB pajamas.Chat Icon

Therefore, if I choose not to have Riley watch SB due to its inappropriateness, I'm kinda screwed.Chat Icon I often take out my Spongebob doll that talks and entertain her with it. Chat Icon

Honestly, I'm not too worried about it. I used to watch it with my nephew when SB first came out...my niece watches it...I don't see a problem.

Hell, I remember seeing Grease in the theaters at 4 years old...I had NO idea what was going on with Rizzo and the preggo storyline...or any of the sexual references. Everything went over my head (granted, the way they speak to each other on Spongebob is a totally different thing...).

And my favorite song as a kid? "Physical" by Olivia Newton-John. I thought it was about exercising.Chat Icon

I always thought that Afternoon Delight by the Starland Vocal band was about having a lovely piece of cake in the afternoon. Little did I know it was about Nookie. And i am a fairly well adjusted type of person!!!

In Spongebob's defense Chat Icon isn't "Section 8" also the military discharge for someone unfit to serve due to mental illness? I remember the old M*A*S*H shows, Klinger was always hoping for a section 8...
DH loves the Pirate who sings the theme song, but at 16 months he has trouble following the narrative thread Chat Icon

See now thats the comparision I got, since Mr. Krabs was a military man
