Spongebob . . .
Am I the only one that really dislikes Spongebob?
Bella is recently transitioning her programming as she gets a bit older (oh, how I wish it could be a Dora World forever)
And Spongebob is a real problem for me. I don't like it one bit.
Case in point, the other day Spongebob was mopping the floors and didn't have any shoes on and Mr.Crab said something to the effect...
"What's going on Spongebob? Don't tell me you went all Section 8 on me" I almost fell on the floor.
Everyone in my family and DH make fun of me for taking it too seriously, but I don't think I am....

Oh I agree- I just feel it's too mature for elementary aged kids. I cannot STAND spongebob and I am NOT looking forward to that battle in just a few short years.

I hate SpongeBob. I had this argument with my sister just yesterday.
Hate him. I actually skip the last episode of Ki Lan on at 1:30 on Nick b/c I don't want him to see Spongebob come on next

Re: Spongebob . . .
I just feel like it is so underhanding in it's inappropriateness.
People get shocked when I tell them about the Section 8 scene, but then they shrug their shoulders.
And then the time they were going to "bury" the health inspector that Spongebob thought he killed...I mean, really???

Oh heck no Spongebob. Even my nieces that are allowed to watch it at home aren't allowed to watch it when I have them. I hate it.

Re: Spongebob . . .
no, not a fan at all.
when my neices came for a visit this summer, that was all they watched.
I don't think there is any reason for a show like that during the day on children's tv.

We don't like Spongebob here either. I will do everything in my power to prevent it on my tv.

Re: Spongebob . . .
In Spongebob's defense isn't "Section 8" also the military discharge for someone unfit to serve due to mental illness? I remember the old M*A*S*H shows, Klinger was always hoping for a section 8... DH loves the Pirate who sings the theme song, but at 16 months he has trouble following the narrative thread

Not a fan either... that's why I started implementing the "no tv after school" rule, and we started restricting her channels. DH set her TV in her room to Disney channel and PBS only, so that's all she can turn on.

I actually LOVE SpongeBob but for "me". This is NOT a young child appropriate cartoon.
I think SpongeBob is hilarious! But again for a teenager or adult.

Nope, totally inappropriate and should NOT be considered children's programming even though it is a cartoon.
My kids are not allowed to watch it and DD knows it!

same here to me, its on par with Ren and Stimpy, Family Guy, The Simpsons, and SouthPark.
Just because its animated does NOT mean its appropriate for children. I am NOT a super strict mom either.

Ds is NOT allowed to watch it, and I tend to be REALLY laid back. I just think its wildly inappropriate for children.

I don't like it either. I was letting him watch it until ds kept saying stupid and he picked it up from the show. He will ask for it and I tell him it isn't on. I also don't find it assuming as an adult.

I hate Spongebob, and I hated him even more when my dad let DS watch it, and I overheard the crap they were saying. So no more Spongebob in my house.

Re: Spongebob . . .
Wanted to add- my kids not understanding what's being said still doesn't make me comfortable. In fact most elementary aged kids don't quite "grasp" the adult humor- but they still absorb it.
I cannot TELL you how many times I've had kids sit across from me during a therapy session saying something completely inappropriate that they heard from Spongebob, Family Guy, The Simpsons, etc. The "Sponge porn" episode has been referenced a few times.

Re: Spongebob . . .
It used to bug me.. but really when you think of it.. Spongebob is the penultimate optimist. He always finds the glass half full and is constantly in a state of bliss. It's a lot more appealing as a parent than shows about toxic or violent characters!
And all said and done.. I don't have to watch it. I know it has safe language, a goofy plot and a sunny disposition so I'm okay with them watching it.

Re: Spongebob . . .
We love Spongebob in our house, we really focus on the relationship betweeen Patrick and Spongebob, they are great friends and at the end of the day the support each other and would do anything for each other. we think the brilliant thing about it is that adults find it funny for one reason, and kids like it for another reason. We really enjoy Spongebob!
I completely agree with Jeannie! Spongebob always looks on the bright side!!
eta...my 4 year old wants to watch Ben10....which is incredibly frightening and violent. I would take Spongebob anyday over that show!!
