Re: Spinoff somewhat: Would you buy a 2 bedroom?

We bought a small 2 bedroom house in a good neighboorhood and school district, becuase we could not afford the larger houses. Within 2 years we added a full 2nd floor and now have 4 bedrooms and 2 1/2 bath. It was the best possible scenario for us, we have a practically new house for MUCH less cost then the existing houses of the same size

I would if I was younger or if I was retired. Definitely not now that we have a son and another baby on the way.

no, I would not buy a 2 bedroom house. not unless it was in MINT SHAPE & had a finished basement... and was a steal!

We just bought a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom co-op. It's huge and perfect for us right now. We'll be there about 5 years. If we were in a different place in our lives right now we probably wouldn't have

Re: Spinoff somewhat: Would you buy a 2 bedroom?

I did. It was all my dh and I could afford at the time. It is small but I have over 1/2 an acre and a good school district. Buying this house enabled us to afford to do little extra's for his daughter, the opportunity to have a baby (soon, hopefully) and travel if we want.

We are totally re-doing it and as soon as child support is done, we plan on moving to a bigger house. But for now it works.

If it's a good deal with potential to expand - definitely.

We bought a 2 bedroom. There's room to expand and it's in a neighborhood we couldn't afford otherwise.

Maybe because I grew up in Brooklyn, but I don't see the big deal of a 2 bedroom house?

we looked at many 2 BRs & because we knew we wanted to buy only in this specific neighborhood of 800 homes & it was originally a summer vacation home community most of the homes are 2 BR bungelows. So I was pretty sure we'd buy a 2 BR & expand & lots of them were in terrible condition.
We even bid on a couple. As it turned out I found our house which is a rare 5 BR.
We would never buy a "done" house regardless of budget though, we enjoy renovating it ourselves too much.

if it were the home i planned to retire in, then i'd consider it. otherwise, no...for resale purposes.

"technically" we did buy a two-bedroom....but there was an option for a third, whcih is what we did. It is a great house with lots of potential in a great beighborhhod and we are happy. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Spinoff somewhat: Would you buy a 2 bedroom?

my sister owns a 2 bedroom house and has 2 kids! it can be cramped at times but at least she is building equity. An apartment that size or bigger would probably be more than her mortgage so looking at it that way I would say yes to buying a 2 bedroom house.

Certainly. But only IF...

the house had the room to have an extension put on in the future. If the worst thing that happened was that 2 children shared a bedroom for a few years, so be it. But I wouldn't do it if there was no possibility that more room could be added.

yes we thought of it. especially if the house had potiential to be expanded.

this is the house we DID buy.

right now, it only has two bedrooms and one bathroom.

there is potential to put a second floor, make the bath and bedrooms larger and to have a powder room for guests.

oh, and we have a full basement that we will soon work on to make more living space.

so... YES, i'd buy a two-bedroom house

Yes, but only if the price is right, the house has a basement, and there is potential to expand.

we own a 2 bedroom condo now but its our first place (we both lived at home till we got married) and its fine for us for now, even with our baby on the way, but we dont have a lotf storage and we definitely plan on moving to a house in around 3 years. I would not buy a 2 bedroom house though, when we buy a house DH and I want 4-5 bedrooms and lots of closetsChat Icon

we bought a 2 bedroom townhouse, but it also had a huge loft so it was more like a 3 bedroom. we only bought it because we knew it would be short term and that we would buy a house in a few years. Well, as soon as baby #1 came along things started feeling cramped! We're closing on our new house in June after less than 3 years here. Sometimes I wonder if we would have been better off just saving up for a bigger house and skipping the townhouse. Chat Icon

Re: Spinoff somewhat: Would you buy a 2 bedroom?

We own a 2 bedroom. This is our first home and we purchased it knowing just that. We got an incredilble deal ( My parents owned it and rented it out). We figured we were much better off owning this house than paying rent to someone else. We plan on selling it next year when we plan on starting a family. There are plenty of people out there that would purchase a 2 bedroom, not everyone is married with kids and need the 3 bedrooms.

we also have a big finished basement where another big bedrom could go if needed, so we are nojt worried and this is perfect for us right now.

Re: Spinoff somewhat: Would you buy a 2 bedroom?

Yes, without a doubt. When I think about all of the money wasted on rent in the past it's a no brainer. Real estate is the best investment IMO.

Would I buy a 2 bedroom?

It would depend on the price, location & property size. The square footage of a home can be changed, but the location & size of property can't.

Re: Spinoff somewhat: Would you buy a 2 bedroom?

I have a small 2 bedroom house.

DH and I bought it at 25 yrs old with no help from anyone and we paid for our entrie wedding on our own too.

I couldnt deal with living in an apartment and we have a dog.

I LOVE my little house. We have a full finished basement (that we did after we moved in) and tons of stoage space. Eventually Id like to add a second floor, but the price was right and we are very proud to say that we were able to buy a house at our ageChat Icon

Yes. Not everyone needs a lot of bedrooms. 2 may not be ideal, but it's doable.
