I would never. Even just so I could have a house. I would rather save a little more and get 3 bedrooms. Esp because of children and resale.

Would you buy a 2 bedroom?

Re: Spinoff somewhat: Would you buy a 2 bedroom?

If I knew I were never having children or if I were retired, I would buy a two bedroom. I always think 2 bedroom cottages or houses are cute...and if there isn't anyone in the house but me and DH I wouldn't need more than one spare room for a guest room and/or office.

Re: Spinoff somewhat: Would you buy a 2 bedroom?

we are in a 2 bedroom condo right now. We couldn't really afford a 3 bedroom house (that didn't need a ton of work) and we actually found the bedrooms in our complex larger in the 2 bedroom rather than the 3 bedroom. We know we won't be here forever, but for the next 5-10 years, it will be ok for us.

We have a 2 bedroom. It was in our price range and it has a lot of potential to add on. Which we will do when the time is right.

ETA: It's what we could afford at the time. And if we would have waited to save a little more money for a bigger house...the houses would be more money. It works for us. Also, we bought this house in a nice area so we don't plan on selling and buying bigger, we bought with the intention of adding on.

We have a 2 bedroom, 1 bath cape. Although we have a full staircase, the upstairs was never finished. The house had incredible potential and we plan on expanding soon. Plus, the attic storage is awesome right now and we also have a full basement and a sunroom. I can honestly say that we don't regret it for a second. It's a great size for 2 people.

Re: Spinoff somewhat: Would you buy a 2 bedroom?

not at this point in my life- but if I had bought something earlier- I was looking at 2 bedroom condos in Long Beach- they cost more then a house- so I passed

I guess with us too we knew we wanted children right away.

Also we are not handy and hire people for everything. We want a house that is already done because we probably couldn't afford to hire someone to do the work.

Re: Spinoff somewhat: Would you buy a 2 bedroom?

No, I don't think the resale value is as high because you are limiting your prospective buyers if you ever sell. Plus we have family OOT, so we need the extra bedrooms.

My parents are both retired & just purchased a new home, 3 bedrooms which is perfect for visitors..

Re: Spinoff somewhat: Would you buy a 2 bedroom?

We're only looking at 3 bedrooms (or more) because we plan on having 2 kids. We currently live in a 1-bedroom condo, which is great for us right now, and the condos have no problem reselling because so many older people are looking to downsize from a home to avoid maintenance (or young couples who would rather not have a house).

If we were handy, I would and consider expansion, but we aren't, so I'd rather move into something and be able to live.

Re: Spinoff somewhat: Would you buy a 2 bedroom?

if its expandable, yes I would.

FH and I saw the cutest cottage in holbrook on half an acre (right in the middle, total room for expansion) for under $300 - by the time we called it was already off the market.

we ended up buying a 4 bed house (turned one of the beds into a den though)

another pro to a smaller home is less to clean. I spend my life cleaning. a con is that expandign a house is a PITA (time, money, permits) and so is moving.

Re: Spinoff somewhat: Would you buy a 2 bedroom?

Nope. I rather put money into a 3 bedroom with potential than a 2 bedroom. Plus the resale on a 2 bedroom is Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Spinoff somewhat: Would you buy a 2 bedroom?

My first house was a 2 bedroom. I have no regrets. I was 25 when I bought it. It was a good investment. I have now sold it and bought a bigger house, but it def. served it purpose for me. Whats nuts is the person that bought it from me had 2 kids. That I would not have done, but they plan on expanding, which it has a LOT of potential for. HUGE property!

Re: Spinoff somewhat: Would you buy a 2 bedroom?

we have a 2 bedroom rancher now.... its on almost 3/4 of an acre, so it has TONS of potential to add on- either up or out.... DH is an engineer and is handy, so for us we didn't mind having to add on. for us, its PERFECT! we knew we weren't having kids right away, so we just wanted something that was a nice size for us now and was affordable on one salary since you never know what might happen.
BUT- we are selling it now and buying ILs house, becasue FIL is getting transferred and they offered us a great deal on their house. so we decided to buy theirs rather than add on to ours. i have to say that in the first week we had our house listed, we had 9 showings, so there is an interest in these types of houses...

Yes, my mom has a 2 bedroom cape and while she hasn't had the need to expand, most of the houses on her block have been expanded and are 4 or 5 bedrooms. It was the only way my mom could afford to get into the school district she wanted my brother and I to go to. She finished half the basement and my brother's room was down there, now it's a den.

I would as long as there was plenty of space. We are not having children so extra rooms would end up being used for more clutter.

If I were younger, and single possibly. I would look at it as a good starter home. But where I am in my life now, no, wouldn't even consider it.

I just bought a 2 bdrm co-op in Manhattan, which is considered very big. If we were looking for a house, then we would probably look for 3 or 4 bdrms, but you never know!

Re: Spinoff somewhat: Would you buy a 2 bedroom?

I did as a single gal. I bought my own place and two bedrooms was the most I could afford in D.C. Well worth it, it has appreciated a lot, and is a nice little pad.
