Seems someone finally called the cops on those panhandlers we were discussing!

Didn't want to bump that monstrosity of a long azz thread, but today I was at the Target in Commack on Vets where I first saw them.
Sure enough, there they were. What was worrisome was they had the mother and toddler on a small strip of grass right near the roadway.
People drive nutty in that parking lot and I cringe every time I see them with a child SO close to the road. It really is scary.
Anyway, I do my shopping, come out of Target and there is a Suffolk PD car parked right next to them and they are gathering up their stuff to leave.
I guess someone finally called the cops and the cop asked them to leave.
I was so glad. Enough is enough already!

They'll be back, I'm sure! If not there, then somewhere else. I was at the Target in Levittown yesterday and saw the couple with the 3-4 year old boy that I saw at the Walmart/stop and shop in east meadow last week. Poor kid looked miserable sitting in the sun stroller!

I see a family in the Target shopping center in Setauket. The guy stands in the road with his sign. He's going to get run over one of these days.

i swear, the next time I see them - i will drive up to them and with windown cracked enough to speak - ask what their deal is. not in an offensive way but in an educational way.

we will see what happens. someone should do a news story on this. interview these people. see what they say

I saw your other thread and I meant to post that I think they are the same people I have seen few times by Gateway mall in Brooklyn . A wife and her husband with 2 kids, I think a toddler and a baby , young couple , dressed nicely. Wtha. Sign that says lost my job...

Who lends out their kids like this??? This is so sickening. I said it before, this is abuse as far as I'm concerned. What kid wants to spend their days sitting in a hot parking lot with no toys, probably bored out of their minds? These people shouldn't be allowed to have kids if this is how they treat them. Children aren't a prop to aid in your begging scheme.

The only way they may stop is if the media gets involved. But the likelihood of that happening is slim to none.

I guess it's a Target thing because the one in Copiague I see the same thing, a family where the father holds up a sign and a child and mom sit next to him.

I was near Costco today and was looking for them.

My plan was to take their pic, even at a distance. Maybe if more people did that, we posted the pics, and then sent the thread to the authorities they could arrest them.

Shouldn't they at LEAST get a summons for loitering and possibly child endangerment. Hmmmm.. does this qualify as panhandling?

If the amount of "donations" near them exceeds a certain amount can a charge be made?

If we had pictures of the same family over and over with piles of different donations, wonder how it could change the charge???

If they are truly legitimate, there are many agencies that can help.

Ok, i was at BJ's in Levittown and saw an older woman panhandling and I thought of this thread. Hmm wonder if they are all connected.

I saw a man, pregnant woman and a child in a stroller standing at te exit of the Costco/Walmart shopping center in carle place. Then thenothervday I was walking into bank in Levittown and there is a lady sitting by the door with her sad sign. It is really becoming annoying.

2 weeks ago I saw a man at the Walmart in centereach. He had a little girl in a stroller, it was SO hot out. I decided to buy them 2 waters (I'm such a sucker!) but when we got out they were gone.

Then last week at the Target in Setauket there was a man with almost the same sign but he was with a different little girl and there was a woman too in a neck brace! What scammers!

It's not just on LI.

I saw a woman today on 3rd and 49th sitting on the floor with a little boy who looked to be about 15 months old sleeping on her while she held a sign stating that they were hungry and needed $$.

I saw her about a month or so ago on 41st between Lex and 3rd with a little girl who looked about 3 years old with the same sign.

3 weeks later she was in front of my office building with a smaller little girl, same sign and she was BFing her. As I was leaving work I saw her walking away with the girl while she was on her cell phone.

All 3 times I wanted to cry for those poor children. Seeing her today with the little boy passed out on top her sleeping just broke my heart.

I truly hope that they are really down on their luck and things are that desperate for them that they need to resort to these measures. I just don't think it is legit and they way they just use their children as pawns makes me want to throw up.

I'm curious, was the minivan a red/burgendy color? If so, then it's the same family that came up to me asking for money in Panera by Jericho Turnpike and Herricks Road. When I confronted them telling them that I know what they are doing, they you g woman rolled her eyes and left panera in a hurry. I advised The Panera manager to keep an eye out for them. When I left, I saw them get picked up by another older looking woman in a newer looking minivan, I want to say it was a Toyota minivan in red or burgendy.

They were back - in front of Target in Commack (on Vets Hwy), at 6:40 TONIGHT!!!!
