Now flying the American flag disturbs people
I would think it has more to do with who it represents than what the flag actually stands for. I can totally understand the obnoxiousness of Trump supporters and their American flags. Almost like they are the ONLY patriotic ones.

I agree. I feel like the flag doesn’t represent our great nation but trump. How that happened is beyond me but I feel like they stole the flag.
I still put them out for patriotic holidays but I feel like I need to fly a peace flag too lol

My neighbor took down her American flag prior to the election because she didn’t want people to think she was a y
Trump supporter. So she took down the American flag and put up her Easter flag in September because it was the first one she found. People are ridiculous.

Well being out of the US for so long now, I find flying the flag everywhere so strange, Trump or not. In the places I lived, I always get asked why Americans fly their flag so much.
In Australia they like their flag, but people don’t put it out on their house or build flag poles. XH always got a kick out of the people down the block from my parents’ house who had a flag pole.
In Germany , it is really frowned upon except at World Cup time and Euro Cup time. Then everyone decorates their cars, etc.
It’s nationalistic. In the past, history has not really had good results with nationalism.

No. I do get it. When I see a giant flag on the back of a pick up, I don’t see someone who loves freedom and the pursuit of happiness. I think he’s a trump supporter. When I see someone wearing an entire outfit of flag Stars and Stripes on Election Day, I think trump. When i see the flag, I don’t think George Washington, Betsy Ross, Philadelphia, our founding fathers, our freedom, our fight for democracy. I see trump.
I’ll still put out my little flags for Memorial Day, the fourth, flag day, etc.
But to me, and others I know, the flag looks different.

WOW, people are really out of their minds. Does it matter which party you support, this is our American flag. When I see the American flag, I think of all the people who fought for all our freedoms. I think of all my uncles who fought in WW2, Vietnam, and Korea, who put their lives on their line so we can have our freedoms.
As a HUGE hockey fan, the other night, the lady who sings the National Anthem, lowered her mic and the fans sang the rest of the Anthem. No one sat down, no one took a knee. I LOVED it. That is why I love hockey.
I will display my American flags all over, and if you dont like it, then PI$$ OFF!!!!

I feel like it's that people WANT to divide the nation.
The flag represents the country- not anyone erson or political party.
The flag does not represent Trump.
I have seen Trump flags- THAT represents Trump.
Not the American flag.
The people who make such a big deal out of it are LOOKING to divide rather than unite.

I am amazed by the amount of people who correlate a flag with Trump. It makes absolutely NO sense. Trump was in office 4 years. Did they never see flags before that?

I would like clarity was it just American flags or American flags and trump flags cause I usually see both when I see flags on a car. Which then her comment makes sense. If it was just American flags than her comment was not really needed.
Either way personally I think it’s dumb and a potential hazard driving around with those huge flags in your car.
I have seen one truck that has a ton of America and trump flags and every time I see it I think how dumb it looks and how dumb he is.
I don’t care what flag it is. I would feel the same way if it was Biden also before anyone asks.

Didn’t the article say American flags? What is the difference if someone is flying the American flag with another flag? What about a police flag? Are they to be judged too?

She was "disturbed" at the WHOLE picture - the expletives about Biden, etc.
Furthermore, this is an extremely slanted article, using the language "left wing" etc.
And now some people on this thread really think people are disturbed by the flag.
I could post a million opinion pieces about the other side.
Critical thinking, people. Let's get some critical thinking here.

She was saying that it is disturbing that Trump supporters are attempting to co opt the flag because they are the opposite of patriotic. They support a literal traitor and criminal who incited an insurrection and are now exhibiting cult like behavior in flying around with his flag next to the American flag.
It's a scene any decent American should be disturbed by. Not the flag itself. The bigger picture.

Liberty and justice for all. That’s what is DOES stand for. You can’t fly that flag and then support voter suppression. Look at Fox News. They are practically bleeding red white and blue but proposing nothing for equality. I’m sorry if you think I’m ridiculous but I know I’m not alone in my thinking. I just feel like it’s recently started to represent the United States of trump.
Am I disturbed by the flag like the article states? No. I love what it TRULY stands for. But I’m disappointed that it’s been taken hostage by a large group of people who don’t stand for liberty and justice for all.
