Re: Let's talk about your hospital roommates...

My first night there...I got in at 2am... and the other girl there was soo nice. It was her 2nd so she let me know everything... like what it would be like to go to the bathroom and all. LOL. We talked all night...not like I was able to sleep after just having a baby anyways HA. She was very helpful. She left that next morning. I was alone the rest of the time there. I didnt mind either way.

Re: Let's talk about your hospital roommates...

i was alone for the first 2 nights and had a roomate the other 2 nights.

She came in and after delivery she was pretty out of it but her sister and her man came in and started cursing and talking about all the drama in her sisters life.
i fellt bad for her.

They all spoke spanish and brought their own food and the room smelled like it.

her man never came on the second day and she was on the phone with him crying that he couldnt get a ride to see her but could get a ride to his friends house.

the last night she fell asleep with the spanish channel on.

Re: Let's talk about your hospital roommates...

Ugh my roomate was a nightmare. She delivered twin girls just a few hours before I gave birth.
We get into the room and she basically took over the place. She had suitcases, computers, books..you name it, it was there.
Her husband NEVER EVER left the room. Ever. i dont even think he ate dinner or went to the bathroom the entire day lol Anyway, she kept both babies in the room the whole time. She was also breastfeeding and one of the babies didnt latch properly so she kept ringing for the nurse every 5 mins Chat Icon Chat Icon
Then nighttime came. Babies were still there, husband was still there, and the nurses were still going in and out.
The babies were up crying all night, her husband must have been writing a book??? he had to be cause he kept saying "please listen to me and tell me if this sounds good" and he would read to her what ever the hell he wrote down.
it went on ALL NIGHT. I swear they didnt stop talking once.

Finally DH was like f*ck this. went to the desk to request a private room. They moved us early the next morning. I felt like i was in heaven!Chat Icon no noise, no nurses in and out and no out loud book reading lol
Best $500 I ever spent!

Re: Let's talk about your hospital roommates...

She was a woman that had a DD already and had a child born a few years ago that had died from something a few days after birhtChat Icon It was really sad, so she was understandably beyond anal over every little thing with this baby, my heart broke for her....She was sweet though and we talked a little

Re: Let's talk about your hospital roommates...

With my first roommate, it was like a 3-ring circus. She had just had the baby and she had a steady flow of people coming in, which is perfectly understandable. BUT, she showed every single person the birthing video...EVERY SINGLE PERSON and had the volume on full blast. I was trying to BF DS and young children (not sure if they were even hers...I didn't think children except siblings were allowed) kept opening the curtain trying to peek at me.

After a few hours of this, we found out that DH's grandfather had passed away and we knew since we were in the "party room" that we'd need some privacy and QUIET, so we shelled out the money for a private room.

The private room was so amazing that we knew if we had a second child that we'd just get one from the very beginning. So, when pregnant with DD, we paid for the private room in advance. I have no desire to hear another woman's birthing process on repeat EVER again.

Re: Let's talk about your hospital roommates...

I delivered at St. Charles and I hated my roommate.

She snored louder then DH, left her TV on blasting the whole night, would pretty much yell when she was on the phone, which she was on pretty much ALL day, had TONS of visitors, ugh I could go on FOREVER!

The bathroom was shared, the shower was HORRIBLE, it was kinda like a triangle and it was difficult to maneuver to take a shower. My roommate attempted and the only 4 words she said to me the whole time we roomed together was "Don't use the shower"

The other down side was that I was BFing and she was not and it never failed that anytime my boob was out there was someone walking past my curtain to visit her and it would always put it open Chat Icon

Re: Let's talk about your hospital roommates...

Lets see.....I was in and out of the hospital when I was pregnant.

My favorite was my last go around when I was on full hospital bedrest. The girl seemed nice enough until 1 AM when she called her husband/boyfriend to come to the hospital because she was in labor SHE WAS NOT! They let him into the room...Which they were NOT supposed to do and they had sex in the bed next to me. The nurse who came to do my vitals said NOTHING! I had to get to go to the bathroom and the nurse told me to just cover myself up.

Yeah I reported that to administration! Don't mess with someone who knows people high up in the hospital!

My next roomate was really nice. She had her baby premature before me. We were together for like 2 weeks I think. I wish I had gotten her email. She may even be on here.

After I had my girls I had a room but no roomate...that was AWESOME! And I was in a quiet hallway. I had people in my room past visiting hours.

Unfortunately that was not an option in the hospital I delivered at Chat Icon

This time around I am going for Private room again. I will not have it any other way.

Re: Let's talk about your hospital roommates...

My roommates were not fun!!!

My first roommate snore like crazy and at times I saw lots of boobies since she was breastfeeding and would fall asleep with her top pretty much off.

My second roommate was far worse. She was a loud mouth and was constantly on her Nextel phone beeping all the time. I wanted to kill her.

For my second child, I had the room to myself the whole 4 days. It was awesome

Re: Let's talk about your hospital roommates...

My first night was AWFUL. First, because my roommates DH and three rambunctious sons visited until 1:00 in the morning, brought her Burger KingChat Icon and then left. That's when the nurse brought in her screaming baby. Oh and even when I asked the nurse to take MY DD back to the nursery so I could get some sleep she insisted that DD needed her mommy when she started to whimper.

The second night was a dream in terms of roommates. She called the nurse for me when she heard me crying from the pain and the nurses didn't come when I pushed the button. She gave me a plethora of pads to use because I forgot mine and her DH constantly offered to bring me milkshakes, donuts, etc. I would've gone home with them if they'd offered!Chat Icon

Oh my! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon You've got to be kidding. I thought it was beyond bizarre that a new mom was prancing around in a negligee in CathyB's room, but this is just INSANE! Guess she wanted to get labor started? Chat Icon

UGH...must tell DH to read this thread. Thanks ladies, I am getting a real laugh (or a cry is actually more like it...) reading some of these stories!!

Re: Let's talk about your hospital roommates...

well the first two times i had a private room and private bathroom. this time around.....Chat Icon Chat Icon they had 11 c-sections that day and 19 babies were delivered naturally. it was crazy!!! i had to wait about 7 hours after my c/s for a bed. my first roommate was really quiet but she had the baby overnight like 3 or 4 times so i got no sleep. the second day she left. that night at about 10 pm.....the entourage came in. mom, DH, grandmother, aunt and 2 year old screaming at the top of her lungs. then she hit the baby and the parents did nothing. the next day wasn't too bad bc she had visitors and so did i. she didn't talk to me at all and the only time she did was to ask me to watch her baby while she went to the bathroom. she never held her baby at all and she was on the phone with the au pair in the hospital. very unfriendly. but i just kept my curtain closed. she was closest to the window and i was near the door. i couldn't wait to get out of there!!!!!!

Thank GOODNESS I have private rooms both times around. For DD#1 I paid $300 a night for a private room - best money I ever spent. By the time I had DD#2, all of the rooms at the hospital are now private!!!! Chat Icon

Re: Let's talk about your hospital roommates...

i had a double room with a bathroom and shower in it.

my first roommate moved out as i moved in. my second was in there for a few hrs until she got moved to a private room (which i was VERY thankful for as she spent the whole time freaking about the clots she was passing and then left a full bedpan in the bathroom. she was weird.). and my third moved in as i moved out (she had just had her 9th baby - first girl in 10 years. i actually wished she had moved in earlier b/c we got along well).

i was there for 2 days, 2 nights.
