Some of these stories are great Chat Icon

I delivered at NSUH in a double room. First night my roomate was great. We both could not sleep and spent half the night talking. Second night..another sweetheart. Only complaint ..she had c-section and I was by the door so it was constant in and out w/ the nurses.

I had a beautiful, large private room with a balcony! The hospital here in NC is AWESOME. Every room is private, and if the rooms fill, they have an overfill wing on a different floor.

I wouldn't trade either of my birth experiences for the world. Stellar, from start to finish.

We are hoping to come back north in the next few years...and I always say to DH, "If we're gonna have a 3rd, let's do it here!"

Re: Let's talk about your hospital roommates...

I hated having a roommate - she had a c-section, I did not, she was BF, I was not - these were a problem for me because she was being checked a lot, which she needed to be, and had a screaming baby brought to her several times at night for feedings, which I get - he needed to eat, but that meant I basically didn't sleep for 3 nights. She also would leave her light on. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I don't remember ever seeing a thread like this when I was pregnant - if I had, I would've packed an ipod, a mask, and some Ambien. My OB only delivers at this hospital and I'm not switching doctors so I've learned my lesson for next time if there are no private rooms available.

Re: Let's talk about your hospital roommates...

first pregnancy, no roommate, just wasn't busy. 2nd pregnancy I had a roommate that really didn't speak english but was sweet a pie! I actually went on to buy her a baby gift before I left. We both had loads of visitors, and our babies were on the same schedule.

DC #1: I delivered outside of NY so I had a private room :)

DC #2: I had a roomate for 2 nights - we both had c-sections. She did not want me to have any guests because she wanted to sleep during the day. OK, I understand she was tired from BFing but she actually expected me to not have ANYONE over (no DH or anything) in the MIDDLE of the DAY - without talking so she could sleep. Its not like I had a ton of visitors and everyone who visited tried to be very respectuful but whatever. She moved. My next roomate was very normal, had visitors etc.

All in all the private room was definately better.

It was heaven!!! Of course, while I was there, one of my neighbors learned the hard way that you can't take the baby out on the balcony, because it sounds the baby alarm and puts the whole hospital into lockdown... Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Let's talk about your hospital roommates...

I delivered at winthrop & was there for 2 nights... or 3? Chat Icon wow, I really don't remember.

Anyway, I had 1 roomate the entire time. She had a c-sec so she was hooked up to a catheter & I had free reign of the bathroom UNLESS her DH, their 1 kid, & 2 cousins were there. She had tons of company all the time. Her DH took my thick grandma pads & wee wee pads from my basket in the bathroom for his DW. Chat Icon

Her NB baby wasn't with her most of the time & went to the nursery at night as did mine.

Also, I went home exhausted, got no sleep at all because she snored like a beast.
