First i would like to say sorry family can really stink at times.
second does your sil know about this? If she doesnt then i would say dont disinvite yourself, she didnt do anything. If she does know then i would say confront her, and see if she feels she would take things away from her?
My neice and nephews were at my shower and i wouldnt have it anyother way. They are my family and wanted them there.

That is RIDICULOUS!!! I am so sorry. What are they thinking??
Every single shower in my family the female children have always been invited and they have a great time. It doesn't "take away" from a thing, I find that so odd and childish of them...
You aren't off base at all. I would be hurt, and how dare they say your child would take away from SIL. They should be ashamed...
Sorry, can you tell that riled me up?? What is wrong with people?

Are children normally invited to showers in your family? Personally, I am not a fan of children at adult functions - but if that is something your family normally does, then you have every right to be pis$ed!

While I agree with children at functions like this. It was VERY wrong to uninvite your children after inviting them formerly. I would use the excuse since they were"uninvited" so last minute you have no one to watch them and therefore cannot make the shower....

I'm so sorry Michele! What a horrible thing to do to you and your daughters. I would actually turn to DH and ask him how he would like to proceed and go from there. It's his mom and sister. I think it's horrible that it was even thought about nevermind said. I LOVED having all my neices and nephews at both my showers; I couldn't imagine not having them there.

Anyone who is that insecure that they think a kid is going to take away from their attention, should IMO not have a kid

I'm so sorry... It sounds like something similar that we are going through with my MIL. It's so hurtful and yet you can't change it so you shouldn't waste your precious energy. Instead, put it into those beautiful girls.

This is so incredibly rude on so many levels. WHY are they telling your DH this a few days before the shower? And why are your kids going to take away from the bride to be , but not the others? 
And a big Eff u to the backpedaling.

I would be very upset. At my bridal shower my SIL brought my niece and she was only 2 months old and I was so happy to see them b/c they aslo live out of state. None of the attention was taking away from me ..plus I would have not cared. I am sorry this happened to you

I would be so upset and hurt as well. I am so sorry that happened. I probably would have also "disinvited" myself.
I'd sit there and be miserable and probably want to slap one of them..LOL.

Why and how would they take away from the guest of honor?
WE had kids at both my bridal and baby shower and it was fun to have them there.
Whomever is making this decision for you SIL needs to get a grip.

Wow....at first I was thinking okay...sometimes it happens where the numbers don't work out and they need to cut plates so they turn around and ask for no children...not that I agree but I have seen it happen.
But then I read the reason they gave you and have to say that I was shocked  That is absolutely horrible in my opinion.
I don't even know what to say but I will tell you that I think you made the right decision not to attend. I would have done the same thing. And when other people ask you why...tell them the truth. That right before the shower your got a call that your daughters were no longer invited and you were very hurt by that.

That totally stinks. I definately wouldn't go either. Well, since it's your DH's family: I'd go out (but not there) and leave the kids home with DH.  UNCALLED FOR with 2 days notice. I hope your DH sticks up for you and questions what happened.
On a brighter note: This means your girls are exceptionally cute because they are afraid of them stealing her thunder!

Wow Michele-I am so sorry this happened.
First- what does DH say? What is his opinion? Discuss with him and see if you feel any better.
If not, I would call MIL and say that you can't come- you have no babysitting at the last minute. What a nasty spiteful person she seems to be!
Then, write a nice letter to SIL apologizing for missing her "surprise" shower with a nice gift card. Put it in the mail today- by the time it gets there it will be Mon/tues- it won't ruin the surprise for her if it really is a surprise and she will see you are not upset with her.
How RUDE!!
What mom-to-be doesn't want children at her baby shower? !!! How would it steal attention from her??!!!

I'm honestly floored and incredibly insulted that their own grandmother thinks they'd be in the way and not welcome them. I live a state away, so it's not like they get to see my kids all the time either.
Not to justify what your SIL did, but do you think in her preggo-hormonal state, she was just afraid that since people don't see your kids that often they would focus on them, not her???
I hate to think that someone would be so heartless, so part of me just wants to say she is a crazy-hormonal woman.
Is your DH okay with you not going? I would hate to see a lifetime of problems over a baby shower.

Wow...that's all that came to mind when I read this. Who is so insecure that they disinvite children bc they think it will take away from a grown woman's party? I'm sorry. I saw your other thread with the beautiful diaper cake that you put all your hard work into and I can't believe how selfish and petty they are being. Good for you not going though, what the eff is that? I'm almost speechless here. I am thanking my lucky stars that my DH's family is a very decent bunch.
