I've been told I'm a mean mommy... WWYD
You tell your 2.5 year old at least 5 x to stop playing with the remote. He doesn't listen and turns the TV off. Then starts crying for you to turn it back on.
I say, "I told you not to play with the remote, now the TV is staying off."
Too mean?

I don't think that's too mean of a consequence. Why don't you move the remote out of his reach though, so you don't have to go back and forth on this with him? I keep the remote away from Jordan because it's in his mouth or he's playing with it.

No, its not mean, in my opinion. Thats a daily conversation in my house! If I ask my child to do something and they don't listen, there is a consequence. Its appropriate discipline.

Nope  I spent a LOT of years in sales - the cardinal rule - tell 'em what you're gonna tell 'em, tell 'em, then tell 'em what you told 'em. 
A modified version applies to toddlers: tell 'em what's gonna happen, let it happen, tell 'em what happened.
It *really* works for us around here

After the 2nd time I wouldve put DS in time out for not listening!
DS loves to test these days!
They do it in school and I follow thru at home.
He HATES time out! LOL

Nope. Lack of listening = consequence in my house too. But I always say, "if you do it one more time then..." and give consequence
If I feel bad, I give him a chance to earn back what I took away right away

Omg you are so far from a mean mom!!
DD is 3 and if I ask/tell her to pick something up she is given 3 'chances' and if its not picked up and put where it belongs I throw it out.
Unless its something larger, then ill tell her that she will not be allowed to play with it until tomorrow and shell still have to do what it was I originally asked.
Since I started the 'throw out' rule, I rarely have to ask more then once for anything.

without reading other responses. I see no issue with that at all. Its how we would act in our house.
She actually must have caught on because she says now "No touch" and will hand us the remote.
BUT, we threw her a curve ball since we got google TV its a keyboard. There are three buttons to control our TV, DVR, Soundbar but amoungst so many she just doesn't care. She can press the letters all she wants, nothing would happen. Thankfully though, she's been 'trained' so she doesn't bother with that either.

Nope. I do this with ds. He constantly turns the damn thing off. I tell him one more time and it stays off. He does it again, its over.

Nope. I do the same thing.
I always end with "this is the last time I'm going to tell you to stop playing with the remote. If you do it again, the TV goes off" and then I turn the TV off.
