Bad Mommy Moment - WWYD?

We live in a small 2 bedroom apartment. There's the kitchen/living room/dining room, then a hallway with the bathroom, and then at the end of the hallway are our 2 bedrooms. Usually I close all the doors to the bedrooms and bathrooms, and let DD crawl around. She loves playing independently and we keep toys at the back of the hallway. I thought she was playing at the back of the hallway in her space, then I heard her cry - she doesnt cry often. So, I ran back there, and she wasn't there. She was in the bathroom! I must not have closed the door. She was wet and crying in the dark. I don't know if she got wet from the toilet or from her damp bathtub that was on the floor from last night.

There was also the cup we use to rinse her off, and a sponge. I don't know where the sponge came from - if she found it on the floor behind the toilet or if she took it out of the cabinet. It wasn't wet, but I'm sick to my stomach that she may have put it in her mouth. Do you think I should call poison control ... my daughter may have put a used sponge in her mouth - I'm not sure, and I'm not sure what was on it.... or do I sound like a lunatic.

She is herself playing right now. I'm scared to put her down for her nap, which she should be taking now.

Please no flames, I am upset beyond words right now.

She probably is fine but I would keep her up a little bit to see how she acts. Maybe call you ped or poison control to see if there is anything you should do. Hope she's ok.

To poison your child they need to drink A LOT of something.. biting on the sponge..while it may be gross.. wont poison her.Chat Icon It stinks when something like this happens but you aren't a bad mommy..

I'd just keep an eye on her and see how she is acting. Im sure she may have either gotten wet from the tub or the toilet. I'd wash her hands and face.
IMO, I wouldnt put her down for a nap, just in case there was something on the sponge.

My daughter got into the bathroom last week so I feel your terror! Thankfully I caught her within a minute but she was under the cabinet with the comet, bleach etc.. Time for cabinet locks for the bathroom!

Chat Icon you don't sound like a lunatic, but it is all so fresh.
tomorrow you will probably forget the sick feeling you have now.

I think she is okay...but call your ped if you want, that is what they are there for.

Chat Icon I have a 4 year old who leaves bathroom door open all the time. I am always pulling my baby away from the toliet.

Re: Bad Mommy Moment - WWYD?

Thank you ladies! I called poison control for peace of mind, at my sister's suggestion- figured it couldn't hurt and I really didn't care if they thought I was a lunatic. The lady was really nice and told me to look for vomiting and blisters in the mouth, and to give her fluids. She has no blisters, no vomitting, and drank some juice. I feel so much better.

Thanks for your hugs and support. This truly is a wonderful site.
