Re: I really need to ask this question about Romney's politics...
I think the jobs, economy, federal budget & foreign policy is more important than abortion (JMO) so I'll vote based on those platforms. I really don't think the 'war on women' is really what it is claiming to be, but instead more of a ploy to sway women voters to focus on just certain issues.

sorry i am at work and can not elaborate like I would like to...
I just wish that the social issues... abortions, planned parenthood and gay marriage was not up for conversation bc its 2012 and we should all be able to love who ever we want and get married, we all should have the option to get birth control , go to planned parenthood. I just wish these were not issues that we had to vote on since to me they all seem like 100 percent common sense seperation of church and state.
got it... and i agree.
This is exactly how I feel

For those whose #1 priority is the economy, I have a question.
Which of Romney's policies on taxes, jobs, the economy are so great? Honestly. I'd like to hear specifics if possible. What I don't want to hear is "Well, Obama didn't do this or that". This is about ROMNEY's plan, his ideas. Not Obama.
Thanks!
we need specifics from BOTH. If Obama doesn't make changes, we are f*&cked. I am not thrilled with either on economic issues.
But that wasn't my question. I hear or read all the time - the economy sucks and it's Obama's fault so I'm voting for Romney. Well what is so great about Romney's plan that would make you want to vote for him except for the fact that "he's not Obama"?
Here's what I read that summarizes the key points for me. What Obama did wrong and what Romeny's plan is.
http://www.mittromney.com/sites/default/files/shared/the_romney_program_for_economic_recovery_growth_and_jobs.pdf
Wow! That is what made your decision? You do realize this website is www.mittromney.com?? He could say rainbows shoot out of his azz on his own website. I like to read international newspapers for what I consider, mostly unbiased talking point on the merits of each candidate.
Obviously you didn't read the prior quotes or my response. Yes, I am very aware that this comes from the Romney website. The questions was- what is Romeny's econmic plan. Many people, including people on these boards, have stated that they don't know what Romeny's economic plan is because he hasn't articulated it.
The question I responded to was what Romeny's plan will make me vote for him. So I went straight to the source and noted this is the site to get Romeny's plan.
And again, if you correctly read my response I NEVER stated it was the deciding factor. I noted that it summarizes the key points of his plan. Before you make your sarcastic comments about Romney saying rainbow shoot out of ass...you should have taken a look at the article which was not written by Romney. They opinion was written by four people, three of which was ivy league deans.
Good for you reading international newspapers- hope you read those more carefully than you read my post and got all snarky. All I was trying to do was provide a quicky summary of the Romney plan- how silly of me to get a candidate's platform from the candidate website.

Re: I really need to ask this question about Romney's politics...
Does anyone really think either candidate will really put women's issues on the top of their agenda when taking office? I honestly don't believe this will ever happen until we have a female president.
To the notion mentioned before about some Republicans treating having ovaries as a pre-condition--While that is obviously ridiculous, women and men are biologically different. That will never change. If a couple chooses to have a baby and the woman to take some time off for baby (a little bit of time or years off) I don't understand how one expects to not have this hold them back in the workplace.

I believe her point was this. On a candidate's website, everything is going to sound great because why would they put something on there that doesn't. Same for Obama. You don't look at a candidate's website for reasons NOT to vote for them. It's all going to be sunshine and rainbows. They are biased. Both of them. There are responses out there to the article you posted that dispute it, saying it doesn't add up or those who wrote it were biased.

Her quote was "Wow! This is what made your decision?" Where did I state that my decision was made by the article posted?! I posted it as a summary in response to a poster asking what his plan was. Rather than give a few links I went straight to the candidate's page.
I agree that both candidate has bias contant on there websites. I posted that article as a quick summary of a VIEWPOINT.
Where did I state that the article I posted is what swayed my decision toward a candidate? Her respond expressly stated that I used this article as a basis for my voting decisions- which is incorrect.

I really need to ask this question about Romney's politics...
In regards to the question on whether I agree with all of Obama's policies, I'd have to say not all but most.
I believe the ACA has the potential to be great. I believe every citizen should have affordable healthcare and not be denied for pre-existing conditions. I support a woman's right to choose and equal pay. I support affirmative action programs I believe in increased gun control - Obama is only for ban in assault weapons. I believe the federal minimum wage should be increased - Obama does not. I support stem cell research I support gay marriage I support the President's policies on Social Security and Medicare I believe that Global Warming exists and I support the President's environmental policies. I believe that trickle down economics does not work. I support tax cuts for small businesses and tax cuts for businesses that keep jobs in America.

I pretty much agree with everything you said except I think guns should be completely outlawed. This is not the wild west and we don't need to kill our own food. We also need to expand the use of solar and wind power. Not just to get off foreign oil. To get off oil entirely.

I guess the Republicans could start by at least voting for fair pay for women. I realize neither Romney nor Obama are superheroes, but how can virtually an entire party, some of the representatives being women (including Michelle Bachman) vote against this?

Because if god forbid anything happened to him while he was in office, this dickbag would be the President of the United States of America.

For the women of these boards, if you plan to vote for Romney, how do you reconcile his stand on womens issues?
First off, people need to understand that voting is a personal issue and someone does not need to justify their reasoning to anyone.
So going back to the question, I have a few answers to this.
1) It is NOT a first priority. The main woman's issue is abortion. In comparrison to the shit state of this country right now thats actually a non-issue to me. The way I look at it is this. This election is not the first, and will not be the last, where abortion is discussed. There have been many republicans who have been in office who have been "conservative" when it comes to abortion. All you hear is :"they are going to overturn Roe vs Wade" or "they can put someone in to overturn it". I have yet to see this be overturned. It's not a priority to the poiticians either. Putting some restrictions on it is not the same as overturning it. However, I understand why some would be upset at even that, but on the same note...you are asking me to justify why this is not as important an issue...can you justify to me why this would top the economy? If you dont happen to be part of the growing population of people who are struggling to find work or keep their jobs, hey I think thats awesome. However, many people on here lecture about putting yourself in other people's shoes, understand you need to do the same.
2) While I would love to believe that one of those guys are superheros and they are going to come in and save women...they will make everything equal, yadda yadda...neither one of them is going to do it because really, that's not what the president does. The reality is that most people are not even getting cost of living raises...some people dont even have a job! Employers are cutting back, not growing, yet the president of all people (regardless of who it is) is going to force them to increase wages of women in particular. Honestly though I have seen a shift in who the bread winners are (now its more common to see women as bread winners). However, it is unlikely that a president can do anything about the percentage that a woman makes. TBH, I have not heard either one say that they have a plan to change that simply because they cant. Education is going to change that? Talk to me about my student loan debt, please. Besides, if Obama was going to swoop in and do something about it, dont you think he would have? How about the other presidents? This isnt a new issue. No president is going to fix that, Im sorry.
3) Now here is my question to Obama supporters. So, you agree with everything this man says? You stand by every single one of his policies, every single one of his ideals, everything he says? I mean it...every word? Most people dont agree 100% with everything a candidate says/stands for (partially because the majority of it is BS anyway). I love my DH, but I dont agree with everything he says, thinks, does. I have religion, but I dont believe in every single thing 100%. You put things on a priority list. To me, economy is number 1.
I dont think my rights are being attacked in any way shape or form. Please understand I say the above with utmost respect, but the fact of the matter is I think some get a little over dramatic with this. People need to relax about the abortion card IMO, but vote the way you want. If thats your top priority, than thats your top priority. However, you can not expect that every person out there has to mirror your beliefs or justify why they dont. Im glad that you are in a position that this would be your top priority. However, there are a lot of people right now that are fighting to stay employed right now...that may not be their priority.
I don't share all of your political views but IMO, this was really well said, thank you! It makes a lot of sense to me. My politics are something I struggle with every day, and it always helps to "hear" the other side of things.

Job creation
I am not involving myself in a Romney v. Obama debate because I truly don't believe either one is anywhere close to the ideal I've thought about.. but Santa Claus isn't running..
That said, I'd really like to see more data on this. I want to know what KINDS of jobs were created under the last 10 presidents - meaning is the job creation across the board including all levels of government and private sector professions? Are we only seeing new jobs for the best educated - or conversely only low paying jobs for those who just need any amount of money at this point? Has there been stimulus in hiring in a variety of industries from manufacturing to retail to finance - and job grades?
I am curious to see how that kind of data shakes out..

I know I'm oversimplifying, but is it really the government's responsibility to create private sector jobs? How do they do that exactly? The government can create favorable conditions for employers, but those who run companies want the most bang for their buck, so hello China.
Even if you think about some of the discussions on here (the union rat thread, almost every thread about teachers) it just seems like there is a big lack of interest in paying people a living wage.
