I'm an attorney. I don't talk in circles. I say what I mean and I mean what I say, so YES, I think you have.

I think missgwife is stirring up some trouble here. Just ignore her/him.

It seems like this person is obviously someone else, especially with only 30 posts.

Now "missgwife" stop starting trouble whoever you are.

I'm not trying to start anything. It was started with the first post.

the ONLY want to stop discrimination in this country is to STOP labeling things....such as Black Miss America, and BET TV and JDAte....

Well, the thing about Jdate is there are orthodox Jews (and conservative, reform, etc) who are looking for someone who share the same religion as them - I don't see that as a label... or as racist or discrminating in a negative way....

I used to be on those dating websites, and there were mostly white people on them. What if you are a person of color looking for someone who shares the same race as you? Is that racist or a label? Maybe someone who goes onto blacksingles.com KNOWS when they go on that website, they don't have to scroll and scroll and scroll through a bunch of people to find someone of color they can relate to....

I don't know - I feel this is a damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario. If a white person dates a person of color, there is a lot of buzz about that by society. But if someone is looking for someone in their own race, they aren't open minded.

I see nothing wrong with a dating website for people who are looking for people who share the same ethnicity, religion, backgrounds, etc. As long as the websites do not perpetuate hate (which "white only" type of organizations tend to do) - we live in a diverse country, but there are people who want to hold onto their hindu lifestyle, Islamic lifestyle, Jewish, etc...

just my 2 cents...

But it IS Ok across the board. In fact, such websites exist. I don't think anyone is arguing its not.

The question is about the heat it would get (which is a political or media based question, not a moral one).

We all live in society. We can't expect everyone to see the world as we it and know our individual views.

Also, words have been assigned certain connotations that they literally don't mean. "Gay" means happy, but when you hear someone is gay, is that what you think of? A "biitch" is a female dog, but it has been used as a deragotary term so much that it isn't even allowed on this website. A "faggott" is a bundle of sticks- but when you hear that word its not what you think. A dyke is a an embankment like a dam, but it has a different connotation now.

And the reality is that meanings are not only construed by the tone of voice, but the person who is saying them. Rappers use the "N" word in their lyrics, but if a white person says it, its a different connotation. If a friend calls someone a biitch with a giggle, it has a different meaning then if someone you are arguing with says it.

We live in a very PC country. We also live in a society where minorities are still discriminated against. There are still people who believe that America is for white christians hence nooses on professor's doors.

Just because you don't mean white supremecy when you say white pride, doesn't mean that is how others will interpret it. You have to look at society as a whole. Its not just your (or any one person's) interpretation.

Re: I really have to ask...

Wow, this is STILL going?

I think the billboard is switched over by now...

and what just gets me is that many of the replies to NOT address the original question and that this has veered into a PERSONAL race/religion post that has SPUN OFF to other people using this to showcase their own strong, opinionated race and religion beliefs, which is fine, until people get nasty and start attacking each other.

I would hope that the question posed would evoke the mature discussion it started as...even with skewed thought we could intellectually pose rebuttals at that point.

I just think that people get SO wrapped up in how they feel and think, that they don't even listen or entertain another person's point of view or thoughts. And henceforth, we can never reall move forward then in this world, can we?

Kelly, I'm shocked too that this is still going on, but am not surprised at all with all the detours. I think you asked a well thought out, and pointed question.

Hypothetically, if I as a white catholic male were to sign up for these web sites would I not be allowed to participate because they are exclusively for Jewish or Black people? Or would they accept me and my efforts to date whom ever I like?

I looked at blacksingles.com and noticed it shows pics on their main page. It had several non-black looking people on the main page. I didn't research if they were in fact white. Chat Icon Not sure anyone can actually do that.

Okay I have a question and in all seriousness I hope someone can answer it.

I am not familiar with JDate or blacksingles.com so if my question seems a little naive forgive me.

Hypothetically, if I as a white catholic male were to sign up for these web sites would I not be allowed to participate because they are exclusively for Jewish or Black people? Or would they accept me and my efforts to date whom ever I like?

honestly, I would never even think about joining italiansinglesconnection or christiandate.com if I were single & wanted to meet a guy who was Italian or Christian.

I guess the way I see it is, the people on these sites are there b/c they want to meet people just like them. otherwise they would be on match.com, eharmony.com et al

Nevermind I just called both sites and they said that they are not exclusive to any race or religion, that would be illegal.

yes and then there is a legitimate dating site allwhitesingles.com

I know I posted it but it has 1 legitimate member Chat Icon I am just saying that if you put in blacksingles.com you get a dating site but if u switch the exact words to whitesingles.com u get a site with a different connotation.

But the op's question was whether or not a billboard in the middle of Manhattan for a white dating site would meet any resistance and IMO I would think yes it would.

Not to be devil's advocate I did respond about the original post earlier however like you I was curious to see if the sites had policies and I was surprised to see this link...it linked to a totally different site...

FTR there is nothing wrong with starting a thread and people answering and sparking another discussion-the problem lies with respecting differing opinions and commuting in a civil manner.
