I will probably take my kids there someday. Probably. I would prefer to take them to Hawaii! Chat Icon
I also don't understand the adult allure, but hey- different strokes for different folks!
Oh and my friend's landlord/ friend- obsessed with all things Disney- every item in her home is Disney- it scares me.
Every. Item.
Toaster, glasses, chandelier, bath/ kitchen towels, plates, pillows, statues, sconces.
Scary.

Re: I don't understand...

I am actually a little turned off by hard-core Disney people.

there is a lot of imaginations IN Disney, but to continually go there for my own vacation would be, to me, a considerable LACK of imagination on MY part...

I don't even plan on bringing my kids there...I'd rather take them to the home of the ORIGINAL Mickey Mouse....Germany.

It's not about the characters, or the movies. It's the effort that they put into EVERYTHING. I have yet to go and not be amazed. They put 110% into every single detail of their parks, hotels and cruiseline.

ITA. i mean, i like the movies too... but its more about the the service and details of the vacation. We've been there 4 times in the last 3 years, but in that time we've also gone to about 8 different islands and another country. If Disney were my *only* vacation per year, then i might think differently about going so much. Its just very different from other types of vacation, and the fact that DH loves it there and feels carefree when he's there make me love it even more- given the crap that he has to deal with in the real world all year long.

Re: I don't understand...

I knew a family that went almost every weekend!!!!

I know what you mean - they even went with their baby who was 6 weeks old at the time (they had older kids)

Its odd. DH's cousin and wife are like that too - in fact, a lot of his family has this obsession...

I would love to take my son one day though...

Re: I don't understand...

I'm actually going to Disney soon, and I'm more looking forward to spending time with my DH and doing things with him than I am excited about going to "Disney".

I have to hand it to the Marketing team at Disney...they sure know how to attract kids (and adults). Kudos to them for making it a truly magical place for so many people.

But for me, I'm a bit turned off on how expensive it has become. Sure you can get Value packages, but it's still pretty darn expensive. I think it stinks that children can be so enamored by all things Disney, but in order to fulfull their dreams, the parents have to fork over mucho $$ just to walk through the gates.

It's probably modeled after one of the castle towers from the cover of The Little Mermaid.

Re: I don't understand...

I have to say, I am not a disney fan. To each their own, but for me, there are so many places around the world that I would rather spend time in.

I haven't been since 3rd grade, and I have no desire to go again. I'm sure I'll take my kids once, but I don't ever plan on making it a regular thing. There are so many other things that I want my future kids to learn about!!

Re: I don't understand...

I like Disney and plan to take my kids when they are older, but I never got why some people would pick that place for there honeymoon, my BIL and SIL went there on there honeymoon and I thought that was so strange! I mean there weird to being with, but out of all the places in the world, disney? How old are you? lol

I guess it just bothers me more since I don't get along to well with my BIL... Chat Icon

Re: I don't understand...

I go, on average, about twice a month.
I'm not obsessed with anything disney. In fact, often times, I do not like corporate disney AT ALL (as I feel they tend to destroy the local economy with how conservative they are).
Anyway, in my opinion, people go to disney year after year because it's a vacation they know, it's a vacation they like and it's a service they adore. There is nothing worse than spending thousands of dollars on a vacation and hate the trip or hte hotel or the location or whatever.
As for the comment about disney weddings. Some people get obsessed with a certain wedding color or a certain wedding flower or some other wedding theme....I don't see it any different.

Yeah, I don't get the honeymoon thing, either. The bride and groom ears...I don't think so!!

I went a few weeks ago with DH..he's 47 and never been, so I wanted him to feel like a kid (parents never did kid things for him when he was one). I like the place, but we'll go with our kids so that they can have the experience. He was over it after 2 days, but stuck it out.

I'd really rather take my kids to see the world..Paris, Rome, and experience different cultures.

I actually thought it was kind of over rated, IMO.. I've been before, but this was the first time I stayed on the property and I did not really need to...

We went on the Big Red Boat for 4 days and Disney for 3 days for our honeymoon and we had a ball.
My dh has been to disney about 20 times and we love it. Would I go if I could afford a vacation every year, no and we haven't been there since 2002 but I don't find anything wrong with it as a honeymoon destination. Maybe because we did the cruise before though and was able to do something more than just Disney.
There is soooooooooooo much more than just Disney World though so you are not spending all your time there. We rented a car and went all over.

I agree with you. Although I can't wait to take my kids at least once when they are older. My DH said he hates it so much, I would have to take the kids myself! Chat Icon (We went in 2005 and he bitched the whole time we were there)

We did a 3 day Disney Cruise and 4 day land for our Honeymoon. It was my DH's first time to Disney. To date it was the best vacation we ever had....We didn't just do the kiddy stuff....there were actually alot of honeymooners on our cruise. Pleasure Island was also nice.

But who cares. It's not your money,

Different strokes for different folks. It's not a just a place for kids but it's also not for everyone.

I like going to Disney -- they have fabulous resorts, lots of restaurants, lots of things to do, it's a short flight and for me it's relaxing and fun.

Whereas, some people like to cruise and you couldn't pay me to get on a ship.
